BANDIPORA: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the District Administration Bandipora celebrated the invaluable contribution of women during the Jal Mahotsav Pakhwada at the Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat Bandipora.

The programme was organised under the Jal Jeevan Mission as part of the district-level activities scheduled from March 8 to March 22 to promote awareness regarding safe drinking water, water conservation, and community participation in the management of rural water supply systems.

The event witnessed participation of women representatives including ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and women associated with Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSCs). The programme highlighted the crucial role of women as key stakeholders and decision-makers in water governance and management.

During the programme, demonstrations on water quality testing using Field Test Kits (FTKs) were conducted to enhance the capacity of women in monitoring drinking water quality at the community level. Participants were also sensitised about the importance of water conservation, source sustainability, and maintaining hygiene around water sources.

Speakers during the programme emphasised that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, women are not merely beneficiaries but active leaders, planners, and guardians of safe drinking water in their communities. They also stressed the importance of community participation and awareness to ensure sustainable and safe water supply systems.

The event also aimed at strengthening convergence between drinking water services, health, and nutrition programmes while encouraging women to actively participate in ensuring water security in their respective areas.
