VIJAYPUR (SAMBA): President of the All Jammu and Kashmir Jatt Sabha and former minister, S. Manjit Singh, today inaugurated a T-20 cricket tournament near 17 Miles in Vijaypur, Samba district. The tournament was organised by Johal Cricket Academy, R.S. Pura, under the supervision of Akash Choudhary, a J&K Ranji Trophy player.

According to a press release, former minister S. Manjit Singh inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest. The opening match was played between Mulan Cricket Club and Alpha Engineers. Mulan Cricket Club defeated Alpha Engineers by 167 runs in an exciting contest. He interacted with players from both teams and expressed hope that encouraging youth towards sports activities can help combat the menace of drug addiction.

“The tournament and participation in cricket matches have encouraged youth to engage in sports activities,” he said, commending the organisers for their efforts to fight drug addiction in society by promoting sports. He added that the government should extend support to sports academies by providing funds and equipment so that more sports clubs can be established in villages, towns, and cities, where life has become increasingly hectic.

“Modern life has burdened people and affected their mental health, especially among the youth,” he said, urging society to protect the younger generation from the menace that has harmed communities. He also advocated for greater self-awareness in society to fight social evils, including drug addiction. The former Minister was accompanied by President Youth J&K Jatt Sabha, Mandeep Choudhary, District Secretary, Jammu Urban, Harbans Choudhary, and others.
