JAMMU: The Department of Home Science at GCW Parade Ground Jammu celebrated Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month) from the 10th to the 12th of September, 2026 under the able guidance of the worthy Principal, Dr. Naveen Anand. The celebration aimed to promote nutritional awareness and healthy eating habits among students.The whole event was coordinated by Dr. Nitu Sharma, the Head of the Department of Home Science, GCW Parade Ground Jammu.

The celebrations began on the 10th of September 2026 with a Poster Making Competition on the theme ā€œNutritious Diet for Everyone.ā€ Fifteen participants demonstrated their artistic skills by creating various posters. The competition was judged by Dr. Mamta Sharma, HOD Sanskrit and Coordinator Visual Arts and Dr. Seema, HOD Library Sciences.

Cooking Competition on the theme ā€œEat Right for better Lifeā€ was held on 11th September 2026 . A total of 12 teams participated, showcasing their cooking skills in the form of various nutritious items. Team 3 was awarded the first position, while Team 1 secured the second and Team 2 got third position respectively. The event was judged by Dr. Ritu Magotra, HOD, English Department, Dr. Renu Angurana from the English Department and Dr. K K Manhas, HOD, Education Department.

The final day featured a Debate Competition on the theme ā€œEat Healthy, Stay Healthy.ā€ Twenty students participated, expressing their views and arguments on the importance of healthy eating, maintaining healthy life style and adopting healthy habits etc.

The judges for the event were Prof.Jasneet Kour ,HOD, Political Science Department and Dr. Arti ,HOD, Dogri Department, GCW Parade, Jammu. Ayesha from semester 5th got first position whereas second position was secured by Muskan,3rd semester and Taniya sharma,semester Ist student got third position. The valedictory function was held on the 12th of September 2026, Speaking on the occasion, the worthy Principal motivated the students to eat healthy and avoid junk food, emphasizing the benefits of a healthy diet and its positive impact on physical, mental, and emotional health.

The entire celebration was successfully coordinated by Dr. Nitu Sharma, HOD of the Department of Home Science, along with Home Science faculty  Dr. Deepti Salotra, Prof . Tazim Akhter, Dr. Amardeep Kour, Dr Priyanka Sharma and Dr. Sabahat.
