JAMMU: Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha Bahu Fort Jammu in collaboration with All J&K Guru Ravi Dass Sabha (Regd) Krishna Nagar Jammu observed Parinirvan Divas of Manyavar Kanshi Ram Sahib.
While speaking on this occasion Sham Lal Basson Gen Secy GRDS Bahu Fort Jammu said that Sh Kanshi Ram Sahib was born to Sh Hari Singh and Bishan Kour on 15th March 1934 at village Khawaspur of district Ropar (Roopnagar) in Punjab. He was admitted in primary school at village Malikpur. He faced much caste discrimination in this school. He passed 5th class in 1945 and was admitted in Islamic Madarsa in Ropar where there was no caste discrimination. He passed B SC from Punjab University. Sahib Kanshi Ram Ji joined service as Asstt Scientist in Central Institute of military explosive in Pune.
Basson further expressed that holidays on the eve of Buddha Jyanti and Ambedkar Jyanti were cancelled in DRDO. Manyavar Dina Bana employee of this Institute lodged protest in this regard and was suspended. Sahib Kanshi Ram ji came to know this episode and met with Dina Bana and D K Khaparde. D K Khaparde provided a book named 'Annihilation of caste' to Kanshi Ram Ji. Kanshi Ram Sahib studied this book and was greatly inspired. Sahib Kanshi Ram ji made struggle and got restored holidays and Dina Bana ji was reinstated. In the same year in 1964, Kanshi Ram Ji resigned from the service and started struggle for social change and awakening of bahujans.
Er R C Bhasin-president All J&K Guru Ravi Dass Sabha, krishna Nagar Jammu addressed the gathering and said that Sahib Kanshi Ram ji wrote letter to his mother showing following pledges:-
I will never return to home
I will not marry
I will never build/own personal property.
I will not participate in social celebration/Rituals.
I will not seek standard job or carrier.
I will not rest until Ambedkar's dream is achieved.
While speaking on this occasion F C Satia and Raj Kumar Chalotra said that Kanshi Ram Ji formed BAMSEF on 6th Dec 1978 and later on 6th Dec 1981 formed another social organisation known as Dalit Shoshit Samaj Sangarsh Samiti-DSSSS-4 or DS-4. They further told the gathering that Kanshi Ram Saheb founded political party known as Bahujan Samaj Party and changed the direction of politics with his broad vision and hardwork.
Sh M R Bangotra Retd. Chief Education Officer shared his personal experiences with Manyavar Kanshi Ram Sahib. He has closely seen Sahib Kanshi Ram Ji. He said that Kanshi Ram Saheb represented the 11th Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998 from Hoshirpur and was also elected as member parliament from Etawa in UP. He unsuccessfully contested from East Delhi and from Amethi in 1989. Kanshi Ram Sahib used to say that BSP would fight first election to lose, next to get noticed and third election to win.
Sh Tarsem Mulnivasi Retd. CEO gave detailed views regarding life and mission of Sahib Kanshi Ram ji. He warned to Dalit communities not to strengthen their own castes only. All SC ST OBC's and Minorities communities should follow the mission of Bharat Rattan Baba Saheb Dr B R Ambedkar and stand united. We should be culturally united. He said that Sh Kanshi Ram Sahib was diabetic. He suffered heart attack in 1994, an arterial clot in his brain in 1995 and paralytic attack in 2003.
Madam Sunita Bangotra Principal Savitri Bai Phule Modern School Dholian Bari Brahmana and Chairman Savitri Bai Phule Education Trust addressed the gathering and expressed her views in detail. She also stressed for unity among youths and women. She said that we must remember great sacrifice of Sahib Kanshi Ram Ji. He made unique pledges while writing letter to his mother. He remained committed to his pledges. He made efforts to awaken bahujans for social, economic and political equality. Through his efforts he proved that political power is Master Key with which we can open all locks.
S. Mohinder Bhagat also expressed his views and stressed for the unity among SC/ST/OBC and Minority communities unity. So that we may get the constitutional rights implemented in letter and spirit. He expressed with heavy heart that we are constituting many organisations on the name of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar but creating dis-unity, it is very unfortunate. We should work as per the mission of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Sahib Kanshi Ram Ji. Sahib Kanshi Ram Ji awakened Bahujans of country regarding life and mission of Bahujanâs Mahapurash.
Sh. Puran Chand presented his detailed views regarding unity of bahujans. He said that we are framing many organisations but we are losing unity. We must act unitedly. Mohinder explained that after the death of Sahib Kanshi Ram Ji then Prime Minister S Manmohan Singh ji send condolence message and described Sahib Kanshi Ram as one of the greatest social reformer of that time, his political ideas and movements had a significant impact on our political evolution.
Prof C L Shivgotra also addressed the gathering and threw light on the life and mission of Sahib Kanshi Ram ji. He also shared his personal views regarding life and struggle of Sahib Kanshi Ram ji. Sh Kanshi Ram Sahib remained virtually bedridden for more than two years. Sh Manoj
Kumar shared his personal experiences with Manyavar Kanshi Ram ji when he was reading in 5th class. Adv Rajit Ramit and Adv Sahib Kundal addressed the gathering and expressed their views regarding implementation of Constitutional Rights of SC ST OBC's and Minorities communities. They explained that Sahib Kanshi Ram Ji died on 9th October 2006 of severe heart attack at the age of 72 years. According to wishes of Kanshi Ram Saheb, his funeral rites were performed according to Buddhist tradition.
