JAMMU: A delegation of Hindu Shiv Sena, led by its State President Krishan Manhas, met the Principal of Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, and raised serious questions over the functioning of the medical administration, particularly the misuse of government ambulances. State Vice President Naveen Choudhary was also prominently present during the meeting.
The delegation alleged that government ambulances of GMC Jammu are being openly misused to transport patients to private hospitals in Punjab, raising serious concerns about administrative negligence and possible collusion. They questioned who has granted permission for such use of government resources, stating that the silence of the administration points towards a large-scale nexus and malpractice.
The members further alleged that ambulance drivers are charging arbitrary and excessive rates, thereby exploiting helpless patients and their families. It was pointed out that the fare decided at the hospital is illegally increased during the journey, and in several cases, patients are even abandoned midway if additional money is not paid, which they termed inhuman and criminal in nature. The delegation directly accused the GMC administration of negligence and complicity, stating that such widespread irregularities cannot continue without the knowledge and protection of the authorities.
They demanded that the official rate list of ambulance services be prominently displayed on boards within the hospital premises, enabling transparency and preventing public exploitation. Raising another serious issue, the delegation questioned why, despite the government spending crores of rupees, there is still an acute shortage of ambulances at the Medical College. They demanded accountability and sought a high-level inquiry into the role of doctors referring patients to private hospitals in Punjab using government ambulances, urging strict action against those found guilty.
Warning of strong agitation, the Hindu Shiv Sena stated that if a fair and time-bound investigation is not initiated immediately, the organisation will be compelled to launch a mass protest on the streets. Responding to the concerns, the GMC Principal assured the delegation of a thorough inquiry and early resolution of the issues raised.
