About ITC Mission Sunehra Kal (MSK)
ITC Mission Sunehra Kal (MSK) is ITC Limited’s flagship sustainability programme, aimed at building environmentally resilient, economically empowered, and socially inclusive communities across India. Anchored in ITC’s philosophy of responsible and inclusive growth, MSK addresses long-term development challenges such as climate change, natural resource stress, livelihood vulnerability, and the need for balanced rural and urban development. The mission reflects ITC’s vision of creating a “Sunehra Kal” or a golden future, where growth is aligned with environmental protection and community well-being.
Mission Sunehra Kal follows a structured, long-term framework built around two strategic horizons that guide its planning and implementation. This approach enables the programme to address both ecological sustainability and human development in an integrated manner, while ensuring scalability and sustained impact. The programme is aligned with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1, SDG 6, SDG 8, SDG 11, SDG 12, SDG 13, and SDG 17, thereby contributing to global sustainability and development priorities.
Horizon 1 of Mission Sunehra Kal focuses on Natural Resource Management (NRM), with the objective of strengthening ecological foundations and enhancing resilience to climate variability. Under this horizon, the programme emphasizes sustainable management of land, water, and other natural resources to improve environmental health and long-term productivity. By adopting a systems-based approach to resource conservation and climate adaptation, Horizon 1 supports sustainable livelihoods while safeguarding ecosystems for future generations.
Horizon 2 centres on Community Development, with a focus on strengthening social and economic capacities within communities. This horizon aims to enhance quality of life by empowering local institutions, promoting inclusive participation, and supporting livelihood security. Through capacity building, institutional strengthening, and community-led planning, Horizon 2 seeks to create resilient, self-reliant communities that are able to sustain development outcomes over time.
Mission Sunehra Kal is implemented through a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach involving government institutions, civil society organisations, knowledge partners, and local communities. This partnership-driven model ensures community ownership, transparency, and long-term sustainability of interventions across both horizons. By integrating Natural Resource Management and Community Development within a unified framework, ITC Mission Sunehra Kal creates synergies between environmental sustainability and human development.
Overall, ITC Mission Sunehra Kal represents ITC’s commitment to advancing sustainable development through a balanced focus on ecological resilience and community empowerment. By working across these two strategic horizons, MSK continues to contribute meaningfully to the Sustainable Development Goals and to the creation of a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for communities across India.
