AWANTIPORA: Dr. Irfan Maqbool Bhat, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction (CDRR), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, has been awarded the prestigious “K. R. Gupta Gold Medal” for the year 2025 by the Council of the Geological Society of India (GSI), in recognition of his contributions to the field of Earth Sciences.
Dr. Bhat received the award during the Annual Convention of the Geological Society of India, held at the Department of Geology (Centre of Advanced Study), Kumaun University, Uttarakhand that was attended by eminent geoscientists, academicians, and researchers from across the country.
The K. R. Gupta Gold Medal, one of the highest honours conferred by the Geological Society of India, is instituted in memory of Professor K. R. Gupta, a renowned geoscientist celebrated for his pioneering and lifelong contributions to geosciences in India. The award is presented annually to a scientist who has demonstrated exceptional academic excellence, impactful research, and significant contributions to the advancement of geosciences. The University congratulated Dr. Irfan Maqbool Bhat for this national recognition.
