SRINAGAR: J&K Police undertook a series of security, enforcement, awareness, community-engagement and welfare initiatives across Kashmir, focusing on operational preparedness, public safety and preventive policing. In Baramulla, Police conducted a Terrorist Incident Intervention (TII) Naka Response Rehearsal on the Baramulla–Chandoosa road, involving SOG, CRPF, BSF, GMC, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, BDS, AST and K9 teams to assess rapid response, cordoning, evacuation and inter-agency coordination. In Handwara, drug-awareness programmes were held at three educational institutions to sensitise students about substance abuse, while Sopore Police conducted a cyber-awareness programme for over 300 students and faculty members on online frauds, scams and emerging cyber threats.

The initiatives also included a Police Community Partnership Group meeting with Gujjar and Bakerwal community members in Keller, a medical check-up camp for police personnel in Shopian, and farewell functions for retiring personnel in Shopian and Srinagar. Enforcement efforts saw the destruction of wild cannabis in Awantipora, seizure of six vehicles involved in illegal mining in Sopore, and multiple anti-narcotics operations across Kashmir resulting in the arrest of 10 persons and recovery of charas, brown sugar, heroin-like substances and 75 kg of crushed bhang. In Shopian, Police also arrested two persons and recovered 43 bottles of illicit liquor, underscoring the continued focus on curbing narcotics, illegal substances and unlawful activities.

  • Police conducts TII Naka response rehearsal on Baramulla–Chandoosa road

BARAMULLA: Police in Baramulla conducted a Terrorist Incident Intervention (TII) Naka Response Rehearsal (Simulated Attack) on the Baramulla–Chandoosa Road under the overall supervision of SP Operations Baramulla, to assess and further strengthen the operational preparedness of security and emergency response agencies.

The simulated exercise focused on rapid response, naka deployment, cordoning and access control, tactical intervention, area domination, evacuation preparedness and inter-agency coordination, with participating personnel responding to the simulated attack as per their assigned roles and responsibilities.

The rehearsal witnessed the participation of SOG Baramulla, 53 BN CRPF, 112 BN BSF, GMC Baramulla, SDRF Baramulla, Police Station Baramulla, Fire & Emergency Services Baramulla, BDS, AST and K9 Squad of DPL Baramulla.

The exercise provided an opportunity to assess response mechanisms, communication, coordination and readiness of all participating units under a simulated threat scenario. The performance of the participating teams was assessed with emphasis on alertness, timely response, operational coordination and effective handling of the simulated situation.

The rehearsal was conducted successfully, reaffirming the preparedness of J&K Police and partner agencies to respond swiftly and effectively to any emerging security challenge.

  • Police organises drug awareness programmes in Handwara

HANDWARA: Police in Handwara organized an impactful drug awareness programmes at Govt Middle School Kralgund, Govt Higher Secondary School Kukroosa and Govt Higher Secondary School Zachaldara aimed at sensitizing students about the harmful effects and serious consequences of drug abuse.

During the programme, police officers interacted with the students and highlighted the physical, psychological, social and legal consequences of substance abuse. Students were encouraged to stay away from drugs, adopt healthy lifestyles, and actively contribute towards building a drug-free society.

The students were also sensitized about the importance of early reporting, peer support, positive engagement and seeking timely assistance for anyone facing substance-abuse related challenges.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to strengthening community participation, youth engagement with special focus on protecting the younger generation from the menace of drugs.

  • J&K Police organizes PCPG meeting in Shopian

SHOPIAN: Continuing its efforts to strengthen community-police relations, Police in Shopian organized a Police Community Partnership Group (PCPG) meeting with members of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community at Police Station Keller.

The meeting was attended by members of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community who had undertaken their seasonal migration to different pasture areas of Keller and are presently returning from the higher reaches.

During the interaction, their experiences and observations regarding seasonal movement, conditions in the pasture areas and issues faced during their stay were discussed. The community members were also sensitized to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity noticed during their stay in the higher reaches. The information and feedback shared by the participants were duly noted for further assessment and necessary action.

J&K Police appreciated the community members for their cooperation and reiterated the importance of continued coordination between the Police and local communities in maintaining peace, security and public safety.

  • J&K Police organises medical camp for police personnel in Shopian

SHOPIAN: In order to ensure the health, well-being and fitness of its personnel, Police in Shopian organised a comprehensive medical check-up camp for police personnel of the district at District Police Lines Shopian.

During the camp, police personnel were examined by a team of expert doctors and healthcare professionals. The medical team conducted health assessments and provided necessary medical advice and guidance to the personnel.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring the physical well-being and fitness of police personnel, enabling them to remain healthy and fit for the efficient discharge of their duties.

J&K Police remains committed to the health, welfare and overall well-being of its personnel and will continue to undertake such initiatives for their benefit.

  • Police launches wild cannabis destruction drive in Awantipora

AWANTIPORA: Police in Awantipora, under the supervision of the SHO Police Station Awantipora, conducted a wild cannabis destruction drive at Chandrigam, Awantipora, in coordination with Municipal officials.

The joint team destroyed wild cannabis plants growing in the area as part of the ongoing drive against narcotic substances and to prevent their illicit use. J&K Police remains committed to a drug-free society and will continue such enforcement and preventive measures.

  • J&K Police accords warm send-off to retiring officers on superannuation

SRINAGAR:  J&K Police organised farewell functions to accord warm send-off to retiring officers on their superannuation. In Shopian, Sub-Inspector Mohd Amin was given a heartfelt farewell by all ranks of Shopian Police on attaining the age of superannuation. On the occasion, a simple yet impressive farewell function was held at the DPO Shopian. Speaking at the event, SSP Shopian lauded the dedication, commitment and exemplary service rendered by the retiring officer throughout his career. Moreover, Addl. SP Shopian, DySP DAR Shopian and other police officers were also present on the occasion.

In Handwara, on the occasion of superannuation of ASI Mohd Shafi and Foll. Mohd Maqbool, Police Handwara organized a farewell function at DPL Handwara and accorded warm send-off to the retiring officer/official who superannuated from their active services. Police Handwara extended good wishes to their families and a healthy post-retirement life.

Officers acknowledged the valuable contribution of the outgoing officers to the department and extended their heartfelt wishes for their future endeavours and post-retirement life.

  • J&K Police intensifies crackdown on illegal mining in Sopore; 06 vehicles seized

SOPORE: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal mining, Police in Sopore have seized 06 vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals during intensified naka checking drives across Police District Sopore.

In this connection, 02 FIRs have been registered at Police Station Tarzoo and Police Post Fruit Mandi, and necessary legal action has been initiated.

In a separate action at Panzalla, one tractor involved in violation was challaned as per law.

J&K Police reiterates its commitment to sustained action against illegal extraction and transportation of minerals and safeguarding natural resources from unlawful exploitation.

  • Srinagar Police accord warm farewell to retiring police personnel

SRINAGAR: Police in Srinagar organised a farewell ceremony at the District Police Lines (DPL), Srinagar, to honour two Police personnel on their superannuation, in recognition of their long, dedicated, and exemplary service to the Jammu & Kashmir Police.

The retiring personnel include SI Parvaiz Ahmad Shah & SI Mohd Jabbar. Throughout their distinguished careers, they served the department with unwavering commitment, professionalism, and integrity, making significant contributions towards maintaining peace, public safety, and law and order in the district.

On the occasion, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy- IPS, paid rich tributes to the retiring personnel for their exemplary service and outstanding dedication to duty. He lauded their invaluable contributions to the force and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the professionalism, discipline, and devotion they displayed throughout their careers. SSP Srinagar also conveyed his best wishes to the retirees and their families, praying for their good health, happiness, and a peaceful, fulfilling post-retirement life.

  • J&K Police arrests 10 drug peddlers, recovers narcotic substances in multiple anti-drug operations across Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Continuing its sustained drive against the illegal trade and trafficking of narcotic substances, J&K Police conducted multiple operations across Kashmir, resulting in the arrest of 10 persons and the recovery of substantial quantities of contraband, including charas, heroin-like substance, brown sugar and crushed bhang.

In Anantnag, Police arrested two persons during night patrolling in the Sallar area. A police party from Police Station Srigufwara apprehended Farhan Ahmad Shah son of Ab Rashid Shah and Ayaz Ahmad Shah son of Ab Rashid Shah, both residents of Sallar Sheikhpora. During their search, 2.2 kg of contraband comprising charas powder and charas sticks was recovered. In this connection, FIR No. 88/2026 was registered at Police Station Srigufwara and investigation was initiated.

In another incident in Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Dooru, during naka checking on the Verinag–Dooru road, apprehended Shabir Ahmad Kalim son of Abdul Rahman Kalim resident of Malikpora Verinag. During search, 11.2 grams of brown sugar was recovered. Accordingly, FIR No. 150/2026 under relevant provisions of law was registered at Police Station Dooru and further investigation is underway.

In Bandipora, Police registered two separate NDPS cases during naka checking at Zadoo, Ajas, and arrested two persons. In the first case, Mohd Asrar Tantray son of Mohd Maqbool Tantray resident of Patipora, Saloora, Ganderbal, travelling from Ganderbal towards Bandipora, was intercepted. During the search of his motorcycle bearing registration No. JK01AF-9058, a charas-like substance, solid in nature, along with psychotropic tablets, was allegedly recovered. FIR No. 219/2026 was registered at Police Station Sumbal. In the second case, Javaid Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Nabi Rather resident of New Colony, Ajas, travelling from Ajas towards SK Payeen, was intercepted at the same naka. A charas-like substance, solid in nature, was allegedly recovered from his possession. FIR No. 221/2026 was registered at Police Station Sumbal. Further investigation in both cases is underway.

In Kulgam, Police arrested three persons in two separate incidents during dynamic naka checking on the National Highway at Qazigund and recovered a total of 64 grams of heroin-like substance. In the first incident, an Innova vehicle bearing registration No. JK03M-3700 was intercepted near Shampora Bridge, leading to the recovery of 20 grams of heroin-like substance from the armrest storage box. The driver was identified as Jamsheed Ahmad Dar son of Gh. Ahmad Dar resident of Meej, Pampore.

In the second incident, an i20 vehicle bearing registration No. JK01AK-4045 was intercepted near Dalwach Crossing. The vehicle was being driven by Shah Rukh son of Syed Iftikar Qureshi resident of Karan Nagar, accompanied by Nadeem Qazi son of Late Qazi Gh. Rasool resident of Rawalpora. During checking, 44 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. FIR Nos. 234/2026 and 235/2026 were registered and investigations have been taken up.

In a separate major recovery in Anantnag, Police seized 75 kg of crushed bhang from two residential premises at Sonch Brah. Acting on reliable information, Police Station Mattan registered FIR Nos. 108/2026 and 109/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act against Mudasir Ahmad Khan son of Mohd. Haneef Khan and Abdul Qayoom Khan son of Saifullah Khan, both residents of Sonch Brah. After obtaining requisite search orders from the competent authority, Police conducted searches of their respective residential premises and recovered 31.2 kg of crushed bhang from the house of Mudasir Ahmad Khan and 43.8 kg from the house of Abdul Qayoom Khan, totalling 75 kg. Both accused persons were arrested and the contraband was seized in accordance with law. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and other linkages involved.

J&K Police reiterates its commitment to sustained and stringent action against the possession, transportation, sale and trafficking of narcotic substances. The public is urged to remain vigilant and share credible information regarding drug-related activities with the Police. Public cooperation remains vital in strengthening efforts to protect the younger generation and combat the drug menace.

  • Police organises cyber awareness programme in Sopore

SOPORE: As part of the JK4C Cyber Awareness Programme, Police in Sopore organised a Cyber Awareness Programme at Government Women’s College, Sopore, aimed at sensitising students about emerging cyber threats and safe online practices.

More than 300 students and faculty members participated in the programme. Prof. Zubair Masoodi, IT Professor & Nodal Officer, I4C, and Insp. Imtiyaz Ahmad, SHO Cyber Police Station Sopore, delivered detailed sessions on emerging trends in cybercrime and preventive measures.

Participants were sensitised about cybercrimes targeting women, online financial frauds, job scams, digital arrest scams, fraudulent loan and dating apps, OTP-related frauds and malicious links. They were also briefed about cybercrime reporting mechanisms and the importance of prompt reporting and immediate response in cases of online fraud.

The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which queries raised by students were addressed.

J&K Police will continue to organise such awareness programmes to promote cyber safety, responsible use of digital platforms and greater awareness about emerging online threats, particularly among students and youth.

  • J&K Police arrest two bootleggers in Shopian; 43 bottles of illicit liquor recovered

SHOPIAN: Continuing its sustained efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse and illegal substances, Police in Shopian arrested two persons and recovered 43 illicit liquor bottles from their possession.

During routine naka checking at Arhama, a police party from Police Station Shopian noticed two persons moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended them. During their search, 43 liquor bottles were recovered from their possession. The accused have been identified as Lawaris, son of Suriyaban Chavan, resident of Kanheri Akhola, Maharashtra, and Daramdas Khosla, son of Dhamdhari Khosla, resident of Amantpur Akhloa, Maharashtra, both presently residing at Alyalpora Shopian. Accordingly, FIR No. 204/2026 under the relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source and establish the forward and backward linkages.
