SOPORE: Continuing its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police in Sopore have detained a repeat drug peddler under the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.

The accused has been identified as Umar Mohammad Sheikh son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh resident of Sheikhpora, Tujjar Sharief, Sopore. The accused was repeatedly involved in drug peddling activities. Despite previous legal action, he continued to indulge in narcotics trafficking, posing a serious threat to society, particularly the youth.

Based on his criminal history and continued involvement in drug trafficking, a detailed dossier was prepared by Sopore Police and submitted to the competent authority, which subsequently issued a detention order under the PIT-NDPS Act. Accordingly, the accused has been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.

The action forms part of Police’s sustained strategy to dismantle the narcotics ecosystem by taking stringent preventive action against habitual drug peddlers and preventing them from continuing their illegal activities. J&K Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and substance abuse and remains committed to taking strict legal and preventive action against all those involved in the narcotics trade.
