J&K Police intensifies enforcement, anti-drug campaigns and community outreach across Kashmir

SRINAGAR: J&K Police intensified its multifaceted enforcement and community-oriented initiatives across Kashmir on Sunday, taking action against violations of tobacco and mining laws, cracking a theft case, arresting alleged drug peddlers and destroying wild cannabis, while simultaneously strengthening anti-drug awareness and youth engagement through educational and sporting activities. The coordinated measures across Baramulla, Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag, Sopore and Ganderbal reflect the Police’s continued focus on law enforcement, prevention, public awareness and community participation.

J&K Police enforces prohibition on smoking in public places at Boniyar Baramulla

BARAMULLA: In continuation of its efforts to ensure compliance with tobacco control laws and promote a healthy public environment, J&K Police in Baramulla conducted a special anti-smoking drive in and around Boniyar Market and Chandanwari Market.

During the drive, persons found smoking in public places were proceeded against and challans were issued under Section 4 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, which prohibits smoking in public places.

The enforcement drive was aimed at ensuring compliance with the law, maintaining smoke-free public spaces and creating awareness among the general public regarding the harmful effects of tobacco use.

Police reiterated that smoking in public places is prohibited by law and urged citizens to cooperate in maintaining clean, healthy and smoke-free public spaces.

J&K Police crack khidmat centre theft case in Baramulla; accused arrested

BARAMULLA: J&K Police in Baramulla have cracked a theft case registered at Police Station Pattan with the arrest of the accused and recovery of stolen cash. On 25-09-2026, Police Station Pattan received a complaint from Mir Waheed son of Mohd Ayoub Mir resident of Mamoosa, Pattan, stating therein that he runs a Khidmat Centre bearing Code No. JKBAR5691 at Mirpora, Mamoosa.

The complainant had left the centre to offer Jumma prayers and, upon his return, found that an unknown person had entered the premises and stolen ₹83,000 in cash. The CCTV storage device installed at the centre was also found missing. Accordingly, FIR No. 222/2026 under Sections 305 and 331(3) BNS was registered at Police Station Pattan and investigation was initiated.

During the course of investigation, police, with the assistance of technical inputs and ICJS Portal, identified the suspect as Rameez Ahmad Naikoo son of Gh. Mohammad Naikoo resident of Bhan, Kulgam. A police team was accordingly deputed to Kulgam, where, after sustained efforts, the accused was apprehended and arrested. On his disclosure, ₹5,130/- in cash was recovered from his residential house and taken into possession as per due procedure. During verification, it was found through ICJS and records of the concerned police stations that the accused had previously been involved in 14 (Fourteen) theft-related cases registered across different police stations of the Valley.

The arrest and recovery mark significant progress in the investigation. Further investigation is in progress to ascertain the accused's involvement in the theft and to recover the remaining stolen property. Police reiterate their commitment to safeguarding public property and taking firm legal action against individuals involved in theft and other criminal activities.

J&K Police arrests 05 drug peddlers in Shopian, Kulgam & Anantnag; contraband substances recovered

SHOPIAN, KULGAM & ANANTNAG: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested 05 drug peddlers in Shopian, Kulgam & Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Shopian, during routine naka checking at Matipora Bridge, a police party from Police Post Berthipora noticed a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag and coming from Matipora towards Batamuran. Upon search of the nylon bag, a Ganja-like substance weighing approximately 13.264 Kgs was recovered. During his personal search, 04 grams of Charas-like substance was also recovered. The accused has been identified as Feroz Ahmad Wani son of Gh. Rasool Wani resident of Batamuran. He was apprehended tactfully and accordingly, FIR No. 101/2026 under the relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Keller and investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and establish the forward and backward linkages.

In Kulgam, during dynamic naka checking at Shampora Crossing, Qazigund NH, a Tavera bearing registration No. JK01T-4963 was intercepted. During search, police party recover 10 grams of Heroin-like substance from a bag kept in the dashboard drawer. The driver was identified as Asif Shafi Bhat son of Mohd Shafi Bhat, resident of Gund Chadoora, Budgam. In this connection, FIR No. 233/2026 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Qazigund and investigation taken up.

In another incident, during dynamic naka checking at Khandipairi, one person identified as Ali son of Abdul Manan resident of JJ Colony, Delhi, A/P Pazalpora, Bijbehara, was apprehended with 06 grams of Heroin-like substance. A case vide FIR No. 67/2026 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Qaimoh and investigation taken up.

In Anantnag, A police party from Police Station Janglatmandi apprehended one person identified as Aamir Yousuf Khan @ Vicky Gadar, son of Mohd Yousuf Khan, resident of Hazratbal. During his personal search, 7.68 grams of charas-like substance in the shape of a ball was recovered from his possession. Cognizance of the matter has been taken and investigation initiated. In another incident, a police party from Police Post GBS, during naka checking at Aung Bridge, apprehended Tariq Ahmad Khanday, son of Abdul Rehman Khanday, resident of Aung. During his search, 10 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession.

J&K Police destroys wild cannabis in Sopore

SOPORE: Continuing its sustained drive against the drug menace, J&K Police in Sopore conducted a wild cannabis (Bhang) destruction drive at Bomai, in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bomai.

During the drive, wild cannabis spread over approximately 03 kanals of State land was destroyed on the spot. The drive was carried out with the active participation of civil society members of Bomai, along with concerned Lumberdars and Chowkidars, reflecting community cooperation in efforts against the drug menace. '

Police appeals to the general public to come forward and share information regarding drug peddling or cultivation of narcotic substances with the nearest police establishment for appropriate action under law. Police reiterates its commitment to sustained action against the drug menace and towards building a drug-free society.

J&K Police destroys wild bhang in Ganderbal

GANDERBAL: J&K Police in Ganderbal, in collaboration with the Excise Department conducted a joint drive against the cultivation and growth of wild cannabis (Bhung) in the jurisdiction of Police Station Ganderbal.

During the drive, teams carried out an extensive search and destroyed wild Bhung plants growing at Bamloora & Saloora, thereby preventing their potential use for the preparation of illicit narcotic substances. The joint action reflects the commitment of Ganderbal Police and the Excise Department towards curbing the menace of drugs and safeguarding the younger generation from substance abuse.

Police reiterated its resolve to continue such proactive enforcement and preventive measures against narcotic substances across the district and urged the public to extend their cooperation in making Jammu & Kashmir Nasha Mukt.

J&K Police conducts comprehensive anti-drug awareness programme in Baramulla

BARAMULLA: Reinforcing its sustained efforts to prevent drug abuse and protect the younger generation from the menace of narcotics, J&K Police in Baramulla conducted a comprehensive Anti-Drug Awareness Programme at Trikanjan, a vulnerable area requiring focused preventive intervention.

The programme, conducted by Police Station Boniyar, covered students across Primary, Middle and High School levels, with dedicated awareness sessions held at Govt. Primary School Trikanjan, Chinar Public School and Govt. High School Trikanjan. During the sessions, students were sensitised about the harmful physical, mental and social effects of drug abuse, preventive measures, the importance of resisting peer pressure and making responsible and healthy choices. Students were encouraged to stay away from narcotics and pursue healthy, disciplined and productive lifestyles.

The initiative reflects Police’s continued focus on taking anti-drug prevention and awareness to the grassroots, particularly in vulnerable areas, while engaging directly with children and youth. Police reiterated that early awareness, timely intervention and sustained community engagement are vital to preventing the spread of narcotics and safeguarding the future of young people. J&K Police inaugurates Volleyball Tournament in Ganderbal

GANDERBAL: J&K Police in Ganderbal inaugurated a Volleyball Tournament under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) at Government Higher Secondary School Gund, aimed at promoting sportsmanship, youth engagement and strengthening police-public relations.

A total of 16 teams are participating in the tournament, providing local youth with a platform to showcase their sporting talent and foster a spirit of teamwork and healthy competition. The inaugural match was played between Knight Hawks Gund and Spartan Satrina, with Knight Hawks Gund emerging victorious after an exciting contest. Principal Govt. Higher Secondary School Gund, SHO Police Station Gund along with other senior Police officers were present on the said occasion and interacted with the participating teams and local youth.

The officers encouraged the players to pursue sports, refrain themselves from menace of drug addiction and actively participate in constructive activities. Police reiterated its commitment to provide meaningful opportunities for youth through sports and other community-oriented initiatives under the Civic Action Programme.

J&K Police takes action against illegal mining in Anantnag, seizes 13 vehicles

ANANTNAG: Continuing its drive against illegal mining, J&K Police in Anantnag took strict action against violators during the intervening night and seized 13 tractors found involved in illegal mining activities at different locations across the district.

The action was carried out as part of the ongoing enforcement drive to curb illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals and to ensure compliance with the prescribed rules and regulations. Police reiterated that strict action will be taken against persons found involved in illegal mining activities, and the enforcement drive will continue in the district.
