SHOPIAN: A district-level Mega Kisan Mela under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), was organised by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shopian, today at Old Fruit Mandi, Shopian. The programme was inaugurated by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone.
Addressing the gathering, the ADDC appreciated the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments for organising the event and emphasised the need to further strengthen support to the farming community. He urged farmers to make optimum use of modern technologies, government schemes and departmental interventions to enhance productivity and improve their income.
The Mela aimed to empower local farmers by providing insights into modern agricultural practices, high-yielding crop varieties and government welfare schemes designed to boost farming productivity and income across the district.
During the programme participating departments and agencies put up stalls showcasing various schemes, technologies, machinery, inputs and other facilities available for farmers. Farmers interacted with departmental experts and sought information regarding different schemes and modern farming practices.
Chief Agriculture Officer, Shopian, Shahnawaz Ahmad Shah, while presenting the welcome address, highlighted the importance of the Kisan Mela in providing farmers with scientific knowledge and modern agricultural technologies.
Experts from SKUAST and other institutions also delivered informative awareness sessions during the Kisan Mela, sensitising farmers about modern agricultural practices, improved crop varieties, scientific farming techniques, pest and disease management, and the adoption of innovative technologies for enhancing productivity and farmersâ income.
Chief Agriculture Officer, Shahnawaz Ahmad Shah, Cheif Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr. Gh. Mohi-Ud-Din, District Information Officer, Sajad Ahmed Shah, farmers, officials and other stakeholders from across the district were present on the occasion.
