REASI: District Magistrate Reasi Kumar Abhishek today chaired a meeting of the District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review the progress of enforcement measures, preventive initiatives and inter-departmental coordination aimed at curbing drug abuse and strengthening the anti-drug campaign in the district.
The District Magistrate reviewed the status of cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and took stock of the action taken against persons involved in drug-related offences. He stressed the need for sustained enforcement and close coordination among the Police, Health, Excise, Transport and other concerned departments to ensure effective implementation of anti-narcotics measures.
Kumar Abhishek called for heightened vigilance against the illegal cultivation of poppy and cannabis and asked the concerned departments to undertake regular field inspections, particularly in vulnerable and remote areas. He stressed the need for strict action against persons found involved in such activities.
Emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention, the District Magistrate directed the concerned departments to undertake regular drug testing among vulnerable sections using drug detection kits. He also asked the Excise Department to procure adequate additional kits to strengthen testing and enforcement efforts across the district.
The meeting also reviewed the Information, Education and Communication activities being undertaken under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir campaign. The District Magistrate called for intensified awareness programmes at the Panchayat, school and college levels, with greater focus on community participation and youth engagement. He further directed that Nasha Mukt pledges be administered during Gram Sabhas in Panchayats to reinforce the message of collective responsibility in combating substance abuse.
Reviewing the healthcare and rehabilitation measures, the District Magistrate directed the Health Department to expedite the operationalization of the Addiction Treatment Facility at District Hospital Reasi. He also directed the Drug Inspector to conduct regular inspections of medical shops across the district and ensure achievement of the prescribed inspection targets.
The meeting also reviewed the process of cancellation of driving licences in cases involving drug-related offences. The District Magistrate directed the Police Department to identify vulnerable and sensitive locations for installation of CCTV cameras and called for intensified patrolling around schools and colleges, particularly during opening and closing hours.
Senior Superintendent of Police Mukund Tibrewal; Additional District Development Commissioner Krishan Lal; Additional Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar; General Manager District Industries Centre, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Chief Medical Officer and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
