KISHTWAR: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Pankaj Kumar Sharma, the Sheep Husbandry Department today organised three awareness-cum-training camps at Trigam in Kishtwar and at Tiyari and Sazzar in Sub-Division Paddar.

Organised under the supervision of District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr Azhar Moomin Bichoo, the camps focussed on educating sheep and goat breeders about departmental welfare schemes, scientific livestock management, animal healthcare and measures to enhance productivity and income through livestock rearing.

Breeders were sensitised to the department's schemes for promoting sheep and goat farming and the economic empowerment of livestock-rearing communities, and encouraged to avail themselves of eligible schemes and departmental assistance.

Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS) Dr Chakshu Sharma conducted the session at Trigam, while VAS Gulabgarh (Paddar) Dr Gaurav Shan interacted with participants at Tiyari and Sazzar. They provided technical guidance on scientific sheep-rearing practices, livestock health management and improved methods for better animal health and productivity.

Special emphasis was laid on balanced feeding and nutrition, hygiene, timely vaccination, prevention and control of livestock diseases, regular veterinary check-ups and improved breeding practices. Breeders were also made aware of the role of preventive healthcare and proper management in minimising livestock losses. About 30–35 breeders attended each camp. First-aid kits were distributed among participants to facilitate basic emergency care of livestock.
