KATRA: The NSS volunteers of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) recently participated in a week-long National Integration Camp (NIC) held at Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, Haryana. Representing the Jammu and Kashmir contingent, Ms. Tanisha Sharma and Mr. Rahul Yadav were selected to take part in this prestigious national-level event. The National Integration Camp, organized annually under the aegis of National Service Scheme (NSS), spans seven days and provides full boarding and lodging.

Only two volunteers—one male and one female—from each university are chosen, making it a highly selective program. Each camp typically hosts around 200 NSS volunteers from across the country. The camp commenced with daily activities beginning with the reading of the Preamble and the NSS song, fostering a strong sense of unity and patriotism among participants.

On the first day, volunteers were divided into nine groups, encouraging interaction and cultural exchange among students from different states.Throughout the week, participants engaged in a variety of activities, including Prabhat Feri, yoga sessions, competitions, and vibrant cultural evenings. They also attended informative guest lectures on topics such as cyber crime awareness, personality development, and the significance of NSS in nation-building.

The SMVDU volunteers actively showcased the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir through dance, music, poster-making, speeches, and theatrical performances during the camp’s cultural events. The NSS Programme Coordinator congratulated both volunteers for their successful participation. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Pragati Kumar, also commended their efforts in representing the university at a national platform and bringing recognition to the institution.
