JAMMU: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri has expressed serious concern over the strike by health employees and the difficulties being faced by patients due to the disruption in healthcare services especially OPDs in government hospitals. He urged the government not to harass or pressure health employees but instead resolve their genuine issues through dialogue and mutual understanding.

Raman Suri said that health employees had already warned about the strike, but their concerns were not addressed in time, which forced them to take this step. The decision to stop the allowance that was equivalent to two days’ salary, which health workers had been receiving for more than three decades for working on Sundays and gazetted holidays, has caused understandable resentment among the employees.

He further said that while employees have their rights, the strike has led to serious problems for patients, especially those who travel long distances for treatment and are now being forced to return without medical care. This situation is very unfortunate and requires immediate intervention from the government.

Raman Suri appealed to the government to immediately start talks with the health employees, ensure that no employee is harassed, and make temporary alternative arrangements in hospitals so that patients do not suffer during the strike period. He said this is a sensitive issue and should be handled with responsibility and humanity so that the dignity of health workers is maintained and patients continue to receive proper treatment without hardship.

If the employees resorted to this strike they can again go on to shut down all services which badly affects patients. The government must keep in mind this issue and settle the issues of employees of the health department on war footings so that such situations don’t erupt in future, he said adding that health services being essential affect patients badly and sets a wrong precedent. He asked the government to make sure that employee issues are resolved at the earliest.
