JAMMU: The Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, successfully concluded a two-day workshop on “Business Simulation and Start-Up Ecosystem” on April 2, 2026 in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI).
The workshop, organized under the Entrepreneurship and New Ventures course for M. Com Semester II in alignment with the National Education Policy, aimed to provide students with practical exposure to real-world business environments and enhance their understanding of startup ecosystems.
During the second day, experts from the JKEDI startup team, namely Mr. Irtif Mehraj, Mr. Zaid Ali Dar, and Mr. Faheem Ul Din Malik, emphasized advanced aspects of startup development and ecosystem support. Key areas covered included business planning and financial management, problem-solving and strategic decision-making through simulations, and case-based discussions on startup success and challenges.
Participants engaged in group activities and interactive sessions, enhancing their analytical thinking and collaborative skills. The hands-on approach helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. The JKEDI team also elaborated on their broader mission to strengthen the startup ecosystem in the region. The key agendas highlighted included creating awareness about entrepreneurial opportunities across various sectors, guiding students on the appropriate authorities and regulatory bodies to approach for different types of businesses, providing information on government incentives, subsidies, and schemes designed to promote new ventures, and offering mentorship, training, and incubation support for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Earlier, Prof. Hardeep Chahal formally welcomed the startup team from JKEDI and emphasized the significance of fostering strong academia–industry collaboration. She commended JKEDI for its proactive role in nurturing entrepreneurial talent and for consistently creating awareness among students about emerging business opportunities.
The first day of the workshop focused on building foundational knowledge of entrepreneurship and business dynamics. Expert speakers Dr. Amit Sharma, Dr. Sameer Bhat, Veer Pratap Singh Slathia, and Mr. Ashraf Choudhary from JKEDI introduced participants to the fundamentals of starting and managing a business. Students actively participated in business simulation-based activities that replicated real-world business scenarios, enabling them to understand decision-making processes, risk assessment, and resource management.
Prof. Jeevan Jyoti, Head of the Department, appreciated the initiative and emphasized that such collaborations are crucial for fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among students. She stated that integrating practical exposure with academic learning equips students with the confidence and skills required to succeed in today’s competitive startup environment.
The workshop concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Harleen Kaur, who expressed gratitude to the JKEDI team, faculty members, and participants for making the event a success. The Department of Commerce reaffirmed its commitment to promoting innovation, skill development, and entrepreneurship in alignment with national educational objectives.
