JAMMU: The Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, organized a successful Hands-On Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Filing for the students of M.Com II Semester under the course Entrepreneurship and New Ventures.

The workshop was designed to familiarize students with the procedures of IPR filing and to strengthen their skill base by equipping them with practical knowledge essential for protecting intellectual assets in today’s competitive business environment. The sessions witnessed active participation from students, making the event both interactive and informative.

The workshop began with engaging sessions by esteemed resource persons. The first session was conducted by Dr. Yashpal, Assistant Professor, School of Biotechnology, focusing on the fundamental concepts and practical dimensions of Intellectual Property Rights, providing students with a clear understanding of IPR frameworks.

The second session was delivered by Dr. Jagjeet Singh, Associate Professor, GDC, Udhampur. He highlighted the practical applications of patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and discussed their critical role in fostering innovation and safeguarding entrepreneurial ideas.

The workshop was conducted as part of an ongoing series of skill-oriented academic initiatives aimed at enhancing students’ practical competencies and industry readiness. Earlier, a workshop on business simulation was organized in collaboration with JKEDI, reflecting continuous efforts towards experiential learning and skill development in line with the vision of NEP 2020.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Jeevan Jyoti, Head, Department of Commerce, appreciated the efforts of the resource persons and the enthusiastic involvement of students. She emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for improving skill development among students and align with the vision of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai.

She further encouraged students to actively apply this knowledge in their future entrepreneurial endeavours, as these workshops align with the objectives of NEP 2020, which strongly advocate experiential learning and industry engagement. The department extended its gratitude to the resource persons for their valuable contributions in making the workshop a meaningful learning experience.
