JAMMU: The victory of Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy after a gap of more than sixty years is a testimony to a hard, sincere, and honest approach towards sports, said Arun Kumar Gupta, State Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Jammu and Kashmir unit, in a press release issued today.
He said that the focus on sports after the BJP came into governance in 2014 has shown tremendous results and has proved beyond doubt that sports cannot be promoted in any country if the approach is based on favouritism, partial selection procedures, and financial misdeeds.
Jammu and Kashmir has once again, after a gap of more than 60 years, lifted the Ranji Trophy, and it is the result of a complete focus on honest and sincere selection with no favours at all. Sports cannot be promoted in an environment of corruption and undue benefits to undeserving individuals, said Arun Kumar Gupta.
He added that the dishonest conduct of sports authorities leads to incapable teams, which results in a big dent in the sporting future of young aspirants. Such dishonest practices not only hamper the growth of sports but also cause great injustice to the youth.
BJP Jammu and Kashmir has welcomed the decision of a court in J&K regarding the framing of charges against all those involved, including the then head of JKCA, for corrupt practices and undue favours to undeserving individuals.
Arun Kumar Gupta further appealed that the present sports environment in the country is a testimony to the fact that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has taken a keen interest in ensuring an honest and fair approach towards sports. Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed the development of huge sports infrastructure under the guidance of the Government of India and will continue to do so for the promotion of sports in the region.
The victory in the Ranji Trophy is a clear message to the people of Jammu and Kashmir that they must remain vigilant against any attempt by anyone to negate the efforts made over the years or revive the practices of previous governments that turned sports into a personal agenda for corruption and misappropriation of funds and resources meant exclusively for future generations, thus helping in building a healthy and prosperous India, said Arun Kumar Gupta.
