In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

SRINAGAR: Department of Physical Education, Government College of Education (GCoE), M.A. Road Srinagar, organized a one-day trekking programme from Harwan to Mamneth Peak on Friday, aiming to promote physical fitness, adventure, environmental awareness, and teamwork among students. The programme was flagged off from the college campus by the Convener Sports along with members of the Department of Physical Education.

The trek commenced from Harwan and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 30 students accompanied by faculty members. The trekking expedition was led by Dr. Mohd Yasin Pir, Convener Sports, along with Prof. Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Dr. Qazi Inaam Saboor, and Daljeet Kour, who supervised and guided the participants throughout the journey.

Traversing through lush green landscapes, dense forests, and rugged mountain trails, the trek offered students an opportunity to experience the natural beauty and ecological richness of the region. Participants displayed commendable enthusiasm, discipline, endurance, and team spirit during the expedition.

As part of the programme, interactive awareness sessions were conducted on environmental conservation, sustainable use of natural resources, and the importance of outdoor activities in maintaining physical and mental well-being. Students were also sensitized to the need for cleanliness and responsible behaviour in ecologically sensitive areas.

Upon reaching Mamneth Peak, faculty members briefed students on trekking ethics, safety measures, and the role of adventure activities in personality development and leadership building. The trek proved to be a rewarding and memorable experience, fostering confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a spirit of adventure among students. Participants highly appreciated the initiative and expressed the need for more such outdoor and adventure-based programmes in the future to encourage holistic development and experiential learning.
