SRINAGAR: A delegation of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) called on Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today and briefed him on the organisation’s upcoming initiative, ‘Mission Sahasi,’ aimed at empowering young women through self-defence training, confidence-building, and enhanced awareness of personal safety.

The delegation comprised Shri Gaurav Attri, Zonal Organising Secretary, ABVP; Shri Tilak Thakur, State Organising Secretary, ABVP Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh; Shri Akeel Ahmad Tantray, National Executive Member, ABVP; and Shri Anjum Saqib, Co-Convenor, Students for Seva (SFS).

During the meeting, the delegation apprised the Lieutenant Governor of the objectives and planned activities of ‘Mission Sahasi’. Appreciating the initiative, Shri Manoj Sinha commended ABVP’s efforts towards women’s empowerment, the promotion of self-defence skills, confidence-building, and the creation of greater awareness about personal safety among young women.

On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor also released the poster of ‘Mission Sahasi,’ formally highlighting the initiative and its objectives.

As part of the programme, ABVP will organise a series of activities across educational institutions and local communities, with a particular focus on reaching out to students and promoting personal safety awareness. Through structured self-defence training and awareness programmes, the initiative aims to instil courage, discipline, and confidence among young women while strengthening their sense of security.

A key objective of the initiative is to provide self-defence training to 25,000 girl students across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Through this extensive outreach, ABVP seeks to equip young women with essential self-defence skills, enhance their awareness of personal safety, and encourage greater confidence in navigating everyday situations.

The ‘Mission Sahasi’ initiative underscores ABVP’s efforts to promote women’s empowerment by combining practical self-defence training with awareness-building activities, with the broader objective of fostering a culture of confidence, discipline, courage, and personal security among young women.
