JAMMU: Senior BJP leader and State Secretary, BJP Jammu & Kashmir, Pawan Sharma strongly criticised the Congress party for spreading misinformation and creating unnecessary confusion among the people over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Sharma said that SIR is a legitimate, constitutional and democratic exercise aimed at ensuring the accuracy, transparency and credibility of electoral rolls. A clean and updated voter list is the foundation of a healthy democracy, and every responsible political party should support efforts to strengthen the electoral system.
He said that instead of educating citizens and cooperating with the democratic process, Congress has chosen the path of political rhetoric, misinformation and public confusion. Such an approach exposes its reluctance to engage in constructive democratic practices.
"Democracy is strengthened by accurate electoral rolls, not by political propaganda. SIR is about protecting the integrity of every genuine voter's right and ensuring that the electoral process remains transparent and credible. Congress must stop misleading the people for narrow political gains," Sharma asserted.
He further stated that every eligible citizen's right to vote must be safeguarded, while the electoral rolls must remain accurate and free from errors. The entire exercise should be conducted strictly in accordance with constitutional provisions, established procedures and the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
Pawan Sharma appealed to the people to remain vigilant against misinformation, understand the facts surrounding SIR and actively participate in the process. He concluded that a strong democracy requires clean voter lists, informed citizens and responsible political conduct. No amount of political propaganda can undermine the importance of electoral transparency.
