In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

BUDGAM: As part of its calendar of activities, the District Legal Services Authority, Budgam (DLSA), under the aegis of the J&K Legal Services Authority and under the chairmanship of O. P. Bhagat, Chairman DLSA (Principal District & Sessions Judge), Budgam, successfully conducted an awareness programme at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam (Legal Literacy Club) on MACT Procedures and Compensation Rights.

The programme was organized with the objective of creating awareness among students about their legal rights in cases of road accidents and the procedures involved in claiming compensation under the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT).

Lateef Ahmad Khan, Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC), Budgam, highlighted the importance of legal awareness among students, particularly with regard to road safety and the legal remedies available in case of accidents. He elaborated on the role and functioning of MACT, the process of filing claims, and the significance of proper documentation and timely reporting of accidents.

He further informed the participants about the various types of compensation available to victims, including compensation for injuries, permanent disability, and loss of life. Emphasis was also laid on the role of insurance companies and the rights of victims to receive fair and timely compensation.

The students were sensitized about the importance of adhering to traffic rules and adopting responsible behaviour on roads to prevent accidents. The session also encouraged students to act as ambassadors of awareness within their communities.

The programme witnessed active participation from students and faculty members, followed by an interactive question and answer session where participants raised queries and received detailed responses.
