BUDGAM: In pursuance to its commitment to strengthen child-centric legal services and protection mechanisms, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Budgam today convened a meeting on the functioning of the Legal Services Unit for Children (LSUC) at the Office Chamber of the Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Budgam.
The meeting was chaired by Tabassum Qadir Parray, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Budgam, and was attended by Principal Magistrate Juvnile Justice Board Budgam, along with Members & staff, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Budgam; members & Staff & DCPO of JJB and CWC; Chief LADC and Panel Lawyers as well as the In-charges of Legal Literacy Clubs from various Government Higher Secondary institutions of the district along with the concerned Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs).
During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on the effective functioning of the LSUC, strengthening coordination among stakeholder institutions, ensuring timely legal aid to children in need of care and protection as well as children in conflict with law, and enhancing awareness regarding child rights and available legal services.
Secretary, DLSA Budgam, emphasized the importance of close coordination among all stakeholders for the effective implementation of child protection laws and legal aid schemes. The participants also exchanged suggestions for improving institutional mechanisms, promoting legal literacy among children, and ensuring prompt access to justice through coordinated efforts.
The meeting further highlighted the role of Legal Literacy Clubs and PLVs in disseminating legal awareness among school children and identifying children requiring legal assistance, counselling, or rehabilitation.
The participants assured their full cooperation and resolved to work collectively towards strengthening the Legal Services Unit for Children and ensuring that every child in the district has access to legal aid, protection, and justice in accordance with the objectives of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Juvenile Justice framework.
