PULWAMA: Police in Pulwama made a major recovery of 41 stolen sheep during naka checking at Urwan, leading to the booking of two persons and seizure of the vehicle used for transporting the stolen livestock.
During naka checking, a police party of Police Post Newa intercepted a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing registration number Jk03N-2440. Upon checking, 41 sheep were found loaded in the vehicle. The occupants were identified as Zakir Hussain Khari son of Farooq Ahmad Khari resident of Nethul, Reasi, presently residing at Mir Bazar, Kulgam, and Mushtaq Ahmad Khari son of Bagh-ud-Din Khari resident of Munigam, Qazigund, Kulgam. Both failed to furnish any satisfactory or lawful explanation regarding the possession and transportation of the sheep.
During verification, the livestock was found to be stolen property. Accordingly, a cognizable offence was established and a case FIR No. 149/2026 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pulwama and investigation was taken up. The 41 sheep along with the Tata Mobile vehicle have been taken into custody as per law.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the ownership and source of the stolen livestock and to identify other persons who may be involved in the offence. The recovery reflects the vigilance and prompt action of J&K Police in tracing stolen property, disrupting criminal activities and ensuring that persons involved in such offences are brought to justice.
