JAMMU: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, today said that Singhpora-Vailoo Tunnel will be re-sanctioned by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) under the Ministry for Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH). The Deputy Chief Minister was replying to a question raised by Payare Lal Sharma.

He informed the House that bids were invited for Singhpora-Vailoo Tunnel, which was annulled due to administrative reasons. He said that the project was sanctioned under Bharatmala Pariyojna Phase-I, which was ceased and the said project requires sanction under NH (O) scheme of MoRTH.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the matter has been taken up with MoRTH for re-sanction of the Project by the NHIDCL and the bids will be invited pursuant to sanction of the project from MoRTH. He further informed that there is no proposal under consideration for Changer, Bhoonda, Choidraman, Warwan, Dardpora and Vailoo Tunnels. Mohammad Chowdhary Akram raised the supplementary to the question.

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
