SOPORE: Police in Sopore cracked a hit-and-run case at Chak Rody Khan, Sopore, by arresting the accused driver and seized the vehicle involved in the accident within 24 hours of the incident.

The accident occurred when a motorcycle bearing Registration No. JK09E-3415, carrying two persons, was hit by an unknown vehicle, following which the driver allegedly fled from the spot along with the vehicle. Both injured persons were immediately shifted to SDH Sopore for treatment.

In this connection, case FIR No. 240/2026 under Sections 281 and 125(a) BNS was registered and investigation was immediately taken up. Police swung into action and initiated efforts to identify the offending vehicle and its driver. CCTV footage from the area and adjoining routes was screened, besides utilising technical assistance and other investigative leads.

Through sustained investigative efforts, the vehicle involved in the accident was traced and seized, while the accused driver, identified as Arif Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Aziz Dar resident of Gund Jageer, Bandipora, was arrested. Meanwhile, one of the injured persons, Haziq Ahmad Mir son of Mohammad Maqbool Mir resident of Kehnoosa, Bandipora, later succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura. The other injured person is undergoing treatment.

Further investigation in the case is underway, and appropriate legal provisions are being incorporated in view of the subsequent death of the injured person. Police reiterates its commitment to prompt investigation and swift action in road accident and hit-and-run cases, ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with law.
