KATHUA: A one-day refresher training program for Part-Time Enumerators (PTEs) of the Sample Registration System (SRS) was organized today at Boys Higher Secondary School, Kathua. The training was conducted by the Office of Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India, New Delhi, with the objective of providing reliable annual estimates of birth rate, death rate, infant mortality rate and other fertility and mortality indicators.

The Sample Registration System, which has been in operation since 1971, serves as the primary source of information on fertility and mortality at both state and national levels. In Kathua district, 29 sample units have been selected under the SRS. The training was imparted to participants by Assistant Directors Jatinder Kumar and Seirin Kohli from Directorate of Census Operations, J&K Jammu. The training aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of PTEs in collecting and compiling data on vital statistics.
