• Calls for upholding values of truth, non-violence and Swachhata

SRINAGAR: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, today extended his warm greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, which will be observed across the country on October 2.

The Minister paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 157th birth anniversary, recalling his profound contribution to India’s freedom struggle and the enduring relevance of his ideals of truth, non-violence, self-reliance, Swadeshi, cleanliness and Sarvodaya.

In his message, Satish Sharma said that Mahatma Gandhi’s life and philosophy continue to inspire generations and remain deeply relevant in addressing the challenges facing society today.

“Gandhiji showed the world that truth and non-violence are not merely ideals but powerful instruments for bringing about lasting peace, social harmony and positive transformation. His message of Satya, Ahimsa, Swadeshi, Swachhata and Sarvodaya continues to guide humanity,” the Minister said. He called upon the people, particularly the youth, to draw inspiration from Gandhiji’s life and work and translate his principles into action in their everyday lives.

Satish Sharma emphasized that cleanliness, social responsibility, compassion and respect for fellow citizens are essential for building a progressive and harmonious society. He urged people to make cleanliness and civic responsibility a collective movement and contribute towards creating cleaner and healthier communities.

The Minister also underscored the importance of promoting self-reliance and supporting local initiatives, enterprises and products, in keeping with the spirit of Swadeshi and Gandhiji’s vision of an empowered society.

“Gandhiji’s legacy reminds us that nation-building begins with individual responsibility. Let us reaffirm our commitment to truth, non-violence, cleanliness, social harmony and service to society, and work collectively for a peaceful, prosperous and progressive Jammu and Kashmir,” Satish Sharma said.

He urged citizens to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti not merely as a day of remembrance but as an opportunity to renew their commitment to the values that Mahatma Gandhi championed throughout his life.

The Minister expressed hope that the occasion would inspire renewed efforts towards strengthening unity, harmony, cleanliness, social responsibility and inclusive development across Jammu and Kashmir.
