The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. • AICC Member stresses focus on sanitation, housing and livelihood generation for inclusive development

JAMMU: AICC Member and Bharat Yatri Shamsher Chand on Tuesday called for the proper and effective implementation of government schemes related to sanitation, housing, and livelihood generation across Jammu & Kashmir, stressing that their benefits must reach the grassroots level without delay.

Addressing party workers and local residents during an interaction, Shamsher Chand expressed concern over what he described as gaps in the execution of key welfare programmes. He said that while several schemes have been launched with the aim of improving living standards, their impact on the ground remains limited due to inadequate monitoring and lack of accountability.

Highlighting the importance of sanitation, he stressed that clean and hygienic surroundings are fundamental to public health and overall development. He urged the authorities to ensure that sanitation-related initiatives are implemented in a time-bound and efficient manner, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where basic facilities are still lacking.

On housing, Shamsher Chand emphasized that every citizen deserves access to safe and dignified shelter. He called for the transparent and fair distribution of housing benefits under various government schemes, ensuring that deserving beneficiaries are not left out. He also urged officials to expedite pending cases and remove procedural bottlenecks that delay the delivery of housing assistance.

Focusing on livelihood generation, he underlined the need to create sustainable employment opportunities, especially for youth. He said that skill development programmes, self-employment initiatives, and support for small businesses must be strengthened to empower people economically. According to him, a strong focus on livelihood generation is essential to reduce unemployment and improve the overall socio-economic condition of the region.

Shamsher Chand further stressed the importance of regular monitoring and evaluation of schemes to ensure transparency and efficiency. He called upon the administration to adopt a proactive approach and involve local communities in the implementation process to achieve better outcomes.

Reaffirming his commitment to public welfare, he said that continuous engagement with people is necessary to understand their concerns and ensure that government policies translate into real benefits on the ground. He also urged party workers to actively raise awareness about various schemes so that eligible individuals can avail themselves of the opportunities provided by the government.

The interaction concluded with a call for coordinated efforts between the administration and the public to ensure that development schemes are implemented effectively, paving the way for inclusive growth and improved quality of life across Jammu & Kashmir.
