SRINAGAR: Social Welfare Department (SWD), Srinagar, through SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW), Mission Shakti, organised a Community Outreach and Awareness Programme at Rangpora, Srinagar, today, with the objective of sensitising the local community about various government welfare initiatives, including scholarship schemes, sponsorship assistance, skill development and vocational training courses, as well as other social security and welfare schemes.

The programme aimed at strengthening awareness about the benefits and provisions available under various government schemes and facilitating their accessibility among eligible beneficiaries, particularly children, women, persons with disabilities and economically disadvantaged sections of society.

The initiative also sought to bridge information gaps and ensure that deserving individuals and families are made aware of the support mechanisms available to them.

During the programme, participants were apprised of various scholarship schemes aimed at supporting students in pursuing their education and minimising the incidence of school dropouts. Detailed awareness was also generated regarding sponsorship assistance for eligible children in need of care, protection and support, with emphasis on facilitating access to the prescribed benefits.

The importance of skill development and vocational training was highlighted as an important means of enhancing employability, promoting economic independence and encouraging self-employment among youth and women. Participants were also sensitised about various social security and welfare initiatives, including marriage assistance, financial assistance for persons with disabilities and other support schemes available to eligible individuals and families.

In addition, information regarding eligibility conditions, requisite documentation and prescribed application procedures was shared to facilitate a better understanding of the schemes and enable beneficiaries to access the available benefits without difficulty. The participants were encouraged to disseminate the information within their respective communities so that the outreach of these initiatives could be further strengthened.

The programme underscored the significance of grassroots-level community engagement and collective participation in ensuring effective dissemination of information and improving the reach of government welfare initiatives. It also reaffirmed the Department's commitment to ensuring that the benefits of various welfare schemes reach the intended beneficiaries through sustained awareness generation, community mobilisation and facilitation at the grassroots level.

Social Welfare Department, Srinagar, reiterated its resolve to continue organising such outreach initiatives to promote educational opportunities, social protection, skill development, women's empowerment and inclusive community development, thereby ensuring greater awareness, accessibility and effective utilisation of government welfare schemes.
