The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. We appeal to well-wishers to extend a helping hand to keep our active newsroom alive. Support Us: WhatsApp: +91-9906103001 | Email: journalistajmerwani@gmail.com

JAMMU: The Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu, under the aegis of the Shiksha Shastraarth Forum, successfully organized an enriching session on “Understanding Academic Leadership” for M.Ed. 4th Semester students. The programme was designed as a platform to enable prospective teacher educators to directly engage with academic leadership and gain practical insights. Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, he offered valuable perspectives on leadership in higher education.

The programme commenced with the Deep Prajwalan ceremony, followed by a warm welcome address by Prof. J. N. Baliya. The Head of the Department, Prof. Asit K. Mantry, set the tone of the programme by introducing the theme and underlining the significance of academic leadership in shaping institutions and nurturing future educators.

Responding to the queries of the students, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain emphasized that leadership is a continuous process of accepting daily challenges and learning through experience. Building on this, students further inquired about the role of communication in leadership. He highlighted the importance of Samvad (meaningful dialogue), stating that open and respectful communication strengthens relationships between leaders and students, which creates a healthy academic environment.

The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor shared that his leadership approach is deeply rooted in empathy, ensuring that no decision adversely affects students emotionally. He reiterated that every effort is made to ensure that students feel proud of their university. Linking this to institutional growth, participants also explored his vision for the future of the university. Prof. Jain outlined plans for infrastructural development, including the construction of an auditorium and enhancement of indoor and outdoor sports facilities, alongside academic initiatives such as the integration of advanced technologies, artificial intelligence tools, and promotion of programming skills like Python among students.

The discussion further evolved into the cultural dimensions of education, where he stressed the importance of Sanskriti (culture) in academic institutions. He shared ongoing efforts to promote regional heritage, including initiatives related to Dogra culture and collaborative projects. Students also asked about the qualities of an ideal teacher, to which he responded that sincerity, hard work, and continuous effort (Prayas) are essential, and that a true “guru” nurtures both knowledge and values in students.

A special felicitation ceremony was held to honour students who qualified prestigious examinations such as CTET, NET, and GATE. Around 40 students including B.A. B.Ed., and M.Ed. students have qualified UGC-NET, GATE and CTET examinations for which the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the students and the Department for this outstanding achievement.

The programme also witnessed the presence of esteemed Deans, Heads and faculties, research scholars and students from various Departments.  The session concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Ritu Bakshi.
