In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

MUMBAI: India’s most loved bookstore chain, Crossword Bookstores, proudly announces the launch of its first-ever children’s book series as a publisher — The Sochu Book Series by Chetan Vohra. The much-anticipated launch took place at Crossword’s flagship store in Kemps Corner, Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s publishing journey as it enters the world of children’s literature.

Published by Crossword and designed for ages 4–12, the Sochu Comic Series encourages children to think independently, question creatively, and engage meaningfully with the world around them. The comic series uses relatable stories, charming illustrations, and endearing characters to explore themes that matter to growing minds — from “The Secret to Success” and “Am I Cool Enough?” to “I Wonder What Makes People Fight?” and “The Best Gift in the World.”

With a legacy of over three decades in nurturing readers and championing authors, Crossword’s decision to publish Sochu represents its commitment to shaping the next generation of thinkers.

Speaking about this milestone, Aakash Gupta, CEO of Crossword Bookstores, said, “Crossword has always been a space where curiosity and imagination thrive. With Sochu, we take our mission one step further, from being a destination for books to becoming a publisher of stories that shape young minds. It’s an honour to extend our publishing arm into Children's literature with a series that celebrates creativity, empathy, and critical thinking.

Created by Chetan Vohra, who has a background in filmmaking, cinematography, and yoga, the author brings a unique blend of visual storytelling and mindfulness to his work. His philosophy of Experiential Education, which combines learning through experience and reflection, forms the foundation of the Sochu series. Each book is designed for children to think for themselves and bring the lessons of Sochu into their lives.

Speaking about his inspiration, author Chetan Vohra said, “Entertainment is food for the soul, and we need to start eating healthy. Children absorb a lot from what they see and read. Through Sochu, I create stories that entertain, yet teach children not just what to think but how to think, to understand their feelings and emotions, and act with purpose. Sochu Books are made for the adult inside the child and the child inside the adult!”

Through this partnership, Crossword reaffirms its role as a champion of reading culture — now taking the next step to create meaningful, mindful, and homegrown children’s content for India’s youngest readers.

The Sochu Book Series is now available at all Crossword bookstores, crossword.in, Amazon, and through Sochu’s official website.
