In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

I will always remember Dr. Priya Ranjan not only as the Chairman of JK Monitor, but as a mentor, guide and elder brother whose kindness shaped my life and work. Write a tribute at In Loving Memory · Dr. Priya Ranjan

When he appointed me Editor-in-Chief of JK Monitor (www.jkmonitor.org), he never made me feel like an employee. He treated me as a younger brother—with warmth, trust and respect. His guidance was generous, his encouragement sincere, and his door was always open whenever I needed help or advice. I will remain deeply grateful for the confidence he placed in me and for all that he taught me.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble human being: kind-hearted, humble and always ready to help. He was also a visionary intellectual whose ideas reached beyond the immediate moment. He brought together deep knowledge, curiosity and a belief in using one’s abilities to make a meaningful difference.

The tributes from his students and colleagues speak of the same qualities I was fortunate to experience myself: a brilliant mind joined with a compassionate heart, and a mentor who made people feel valued. His influence lives on in the people he guided, the work he inspired and the many lives he touched.

For me, he will always be more than a respected chairman or a remarkable intellectual. He will be the elder brother who welcomed me, believed in me and guided me with affection. I will carry his lessons and his kindness with me always. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and never forgotten.

JAMMU: Streaming your favourite content on OTT platforms has become a way of life. Be it mobile, laptop or tablet screens, or TV, streaming platforms dictate and shape our content consumption. We surf multiple platforms and have various favourites across them. However, the cost of subscribing to multiple streaming apps can burn a hole in your pocket.

What if there was a smarter, much more cost-effective way to enjoy content from 17 OTT platforms with just one subscription?

Vi Movies & TV makes this possible, offering not just convenience but also incredible savings.

Let’s break down how you can unlock the world of OTT entertainment while keeping your wallet happy.

One Subscription, 17 OTT Platforms

Vi Movies & TV is an All in One OTT App that lets you access 17 popular OTT platforms with one subscription. From Disney+ Hotstar, Sony LIV, ZEE5, and Lionsgate Play to regional favourites such as ManoramaMAX (Malayalam), NammaFlix (Kannada), Sun NXT (South Indian languages) and Klikk (Bengali), there’s something for everyone.

Sports enthusiasts can cheer for their favourite teams with FanCode, Disney+ Hotstar and Sony LIV’s sports coverage. K-Drama lovers can enjoy the best of Korean content with Playflix as well as enjoy the best of Hollywood content with Lionsgate Play.

Let’s take a look at all the benefits:

Benefit 1: Save Big on Subscription Costs

Subscribing individually to these 17 OTT platforms can cost upwards of Rs 6,000 per month. However, Vi Movies & TV offers easy access to all of them with plans starting at just Rs 154 for Prepaid and Rs199 for Postpaid customers. This means you’re paying a fraction of the cost – less than your monthly cable or DTH bill – while enjoying a world full of entertainment. No more juggling multiple subscriptions and remembering renewal dates.

Benefit 2: Stream on TV & Mobile – simultaneously.

Enjoy the convenience of streaming on two devices at once with Vi Movies & TV. Whether you're on your mobile or watching on your TV, one subscription is all you need.

Benefit 3: Enjoy Extra Data for Seamless Streaming

Vi Movies & TV doesn’t just give you access to OTT platforms; it also offers extra data for mobile streaming. This means you can binge-watch your favourite shows and movies on-the-go without worrying about running out of data. Vi offers up to 10GB extra data across four different prepaid plans

Benefit 4: Single subscription for all age groups & genres

With Vi Movies & TV, you get a single platform to manage all your streaming needs. Whether you’re 16 or 60 years, a movie buff, multi-show maverick, sports fan, or drama addict, everything is accessible on one app!

Benefit 5: Stream Regional Content on the go

As per various industry reports, OTT platforms have witnessed great interest in regional language content. According to the recent FICCI-EY report, in 2023, approximately 4,000 hours of content was produced for OTT, with about 3,000 hours being original content. Of this original content, 51% was regional, and this is expected to rise to 55% in the next three to four years. As per the PwC Entertainment & Media Outlook study, OTT viewership in India is booming in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, contributing to 60% of new viewership growth. Vi Movies & TV taps into these trends by providing access to regional content, including platforms like Sun NXT for South Indian languages, ManoramaMAX for Malayalam content, NammaFlix for Kannada, and Klikk for Bengali entertainment. This ensures you’re always connected to stories that speak your language

Benefit 6: Never miss a match, or catch!

With platforms like Disney+ Hotstar, Sony LIV, and FanCode, you can stream live sports, catch up on highlights, and enjoy exclusive sports content – all with your Vi Movies & TV subscription

Benefit 7: Binge your Favourite K-Dramas and Other International Content

Love Korean dramas? Vi Movies & TV’s partnership with Playflix ensures you have access to the latest and greatest K-Dramas. If international films and shows are your thing, Lionsgate Play has got you covered.

How to Get Started with Vi Movies & TV

Android phone users can download the Vi Movies & TV App from the Google Play store here; iPhone users can download the app here. Customers can choose a plan from an array of Prepaid options starting Rs 154 or a Postpaid plan starting Rs 199, as per their need.

Upon selecting the plan, customers need to create an account and can start watching their favourite content on mobile and TV.

A Profound Loss: JK Monitor Mourns the Passing of Founding Chairman Dr. Priya Ranjan

We at JK Monitor are profoundly saddened by the sudden demise of our Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan. IN LOVING MEMORY Dr Priya Ranjan

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
