In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

NEW DELHI: Pearl Academy announced that it has signed an institutional Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with OpenAI to implement OpenAI Edu across all its campuses for the academic year 2026–27. With this collaboration, Pearl Academy becomes one of the early creative design institutions to establish an institution-wide engagement with OpenAI, embedding artificial intelligence (AI) into its academic framework and equipping students with capabilities aligned to emerging, AI-driven careers. The MoU coincided with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s visit to India, underscoring AI’s role in driving innovation and the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Under this institutional collaboration, Pearl Academy will integrate OpenAI Edu across its programmes, providing structured, institutionally governed access to advanced generative tools for students, faculty and staff. The initiative is anchored by Pearl Academy’s AI Studio, powered by ChatGPT, an institutional framework designed to embed these capabilities directly into core pedagogy across fashion, design, communication, product and creative business disciplines, rather than treating them as optional add-ons. As India’s creative economy moves toward a ₹2.5 trillion valuation, this approach positions Pearl Academy at the forefront of preparing future-ready talent to lead the sector’s next phase of growth.

The objective is to embed augmented intelligence into everyday academic workflows. Students will use AI as a structured research and ideation companion, supporting concept development, exploration, analysis, and presentation refinement. The integration enhances human creativity, strengthens analytical depth, and builds greater industry readiness.

Aditi Srivastava, President, Pearl Academy, said,“At Pearl Academy, our partnership with OpenAI, as the first design institute in India, marks a defining step in institution-wide AI adoption within creative education. Through our AI Studio powered by OpenAI, we are embedding AI into core pedagogy across fashion, design, communication, and creative business, building augmented literacy and enabling quick, responsible innovation at scale. AI becomes a personal trainer for students and a strategic research ally across creative and policy contexts, strengthening industry readiness while operating within strong ethical and governance frameworks.”

For faculty, the platform will streamline academic planning and assessment design, reduce administrative load and free up time for deeper studio engagement and mentorship. AI-enabled tools will support differentiated instruction, enable personalised academic assistance while maintain strong human oversight.

As part of this recent visit to India Sam Altman, CEO OpenAI participated in an Ask me Anything session at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi), where he engaged with students on the evolving relationship between AI and creativity. Responding to a question from a Pearl Academy student, he spoke about originality, India’s expanding role in the global AI ecosystem, and the importance of equipping students with advanced AI tools in their academic journey. He also emphasized the need to balance rapid innovation with responsible development noting that AI will increasingly augment human creativity rather than replace it.

This initiative comes at a time when global industry leaders and policy platforms are actively debating the impact of AI on creative professions. As AI increasingly augments roles in design, fashion, branding, and digital content, Pearl Academy’s institution-wide integration ensures students are prepared for evolving creator jobs that demand both technological fluency and distinctly human imagination.
