JAMMU: In a heartfelt tribute to the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces, the National Service Scheme (NSS) units of Government College for Women, Parade Ground Jammu, organized a commemorative event for Kargil Vijay Diwas. The event, held in the college premises, was a solemn acknowledgment of the bravery displayed by Indian soldiers during the Kargil War.

The program commenced with a stirring patriotic group song, followed by a solo dance performance that captured the essence of national pride and unity. The highlight of the event was a speech that eloquently conveyed the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas, paying homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation. In alignment with the spirit of remembrance and commitment to the nation, the event concluded with a plantation drive under the banner “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.”

The Principal of the College, Dr Ravender Kumar Tickoo, inaugurated the plantation drive by planting a sapling in the college campus. The initiative saw the planting of around 100 saplings taken from Social Forestry Department especially for the occasion, symbolizing the growth and strength of the nation, echoing the enduring legacy of the soldiers’ sacrifice.

The event was attended by faculty and students all coming together to honour the heroes of Kargil and reaffirm their dedication to the values of patriotism and environmental stewardship.  The programme was coordinated by Dr Gurpreet Kour and Dr Atiya Syed, NSS POs of the college who led the NSS Volunteers to appreciate the efforts of our War heroes in bringing peace to the Nation.
