BARAMULLA: In a significant step towards combating cybercrime and disrupting the financial networks used for unlawful activities, Police in Baramulla, through Cyber Police Station Baramulla, has registered an FIR against two persons for their alleged involvement in the use of mule bank accounts to receive, hold and transfer illicit funds.

The FIR, bearing No. 05/2026, has been registered under Sections 318(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act. The accused have been identified as Mohsin Ashraf Ganie, resident of Gulshanabad, Baramulla, and Sahil Irshad, resident of Khanpora, Baramulla, presently residing at Chakloo.

The case was registered on the basis of information alleging that mule bank accounts were being used to facilitate the movement of illicit funds within and outside the UT of J&K. Such accounts can be exploited to conceal the origin and movement of suspicious transactions, posing a serious challenge to the detection and prevention of cyber-enabled financial offences.

Investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the alleged financial transactions, establish the individual roles of those involved, and identify any other persons or networks connected with the case.

Police reiterates its commitment to taking firm legal action against cybercrime and financial fraud. The public is advised not to share bank accounts, ATM cards, banking credentials or account access with unknown persons or in exchange for commission, as such arrangements may expose account holders to legal consequences.
