SRINAGAR: Cracking a whip on illegal mining & transportation of minerals, police have seized 07 vehicles and arrested 07 drivers in Baramulla & Kulgam. In Baramulla, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg assisted by SHO Police Station Kunzer seized 3 vehicles (3 Tipper) & arrested 3 drivers involved in illegal extraction/ transportation of minerals at Kunzer Baramulla.

They have been identified as Abdul Majeed Sheikh son of Abdul Rahim resident of Karhama, Bilal Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Akbar resident of Takiya Batpora & Bilal Ahmad Ganie son of Habibullah resident of Ugmuna. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Kunzer and investigation set into motion.

In Kulgam, police parties of Police Station Devsar and Police Post Jawahar Tunnel seized 04 vehicle (Tractors) & arrested 04 drivers involved in illegal extraction/ transportation of minerals at Devsar and Sadiwara. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Devsar and Police Station Qazigund and investigation set into motion.

Persons found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

We at JK Monitor are profoundly saddened by the sudden demise of our Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan. IN LOVING MEMORY Dr Priya Ranjan

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
