In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

KATRA: Dr. Pankaj Biswas, Assistant Professor at the School of Physics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, presented his research on “Optical Characterization and Upconversion Luminescence in KSrVO4:Er3+” at the international conference POLY-CHAR 2025, recently held at the University of Mauritius. His presentation focused on developing nanocomposite films of the KSrVO4:Er3+ phosphor embedded in PMMA and PVP polymers for solar cell applications.

These luminescent up-shifting layers, applied to the rear of solar cells, enhance efficiency by converting near-infrared photons into usable light—a key strategy for improving silicon-based solar devices. POLY-CHAR 2025, co-organized by the Centre for Biomedical and Biomaterials Research (CBBR), Mauritius, and the Wits Advanced Drug Delivery Platform (WADDP), South Africa, brought together experts from 21 countries including USA, Japan, Germany, India, and South Africa.

The conference highlighted the convergence of polymer science and nanobiotechnology to tackle global challenges in healthcare, sustainability, and advanced materials. The event also reinforced Mauritius’ role as a growing scientific hub in the Indian Ocean, fostering international collaboration and innovation.

Your voice can reach the world: At JK Monitor, we firmly believe that every well-researched idea has the power to inspire change beyond geographical boundaries. We are delighted to share an encouraging message from one of our esteemed contributors, Dr. Rakesh Verma (J&K Forest Services). “His article, ‘When Trees Become Rights-Bearing Citizens: A Lesson from Canada for India’s Ecological Future,’ published on JK Monitor, received appreciation from La Compagnie des Papillons Bleus, the French non-profit organisation that founded and promotes the Universal Declaration of Tree Rights.”.  Read the message here
