  • Students participate in Symposium, Painting Competition, cultural prog

JAMMU: To spread awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse and to motivate students towards a healthy and responsible lifestyle, the Cultural Unit Jammu of the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) today organised a Symposium Competition, Painting Competition and Cultural Programme at PM Shri Government Higher Secondary School, Sohal-Akhnoor, under the theme “Say No to Drugs.”

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who expressed their views against drug abuse through speeches, paintings and cultural performances. A thought-provoking skit presented by the students on drug de-addiction effectively conveyed the message of staying away from drugs and choosing a positive path in life. The cultural segment also included theme-based songs on Nasha Mukti and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, along with soulful folk songs presented by the artists of the Cultural Unit Jammu and teachers of the school, which added colour and vibrancy to the event.

The Chief Guest, School Principal Sushma Thakur, in her address, highlighted the importance of such awareness programmes for sensitizing the younger generation. She urged students to act as ambassadors of a drug-free society. She congratulated the winners and appreciated the Cultural Unit Jammu for organising a meaningful and socially relevant programme.

The Symposium Competition was judged by Aavit Kumar, Sushma Sharma and Sukhdev Raj. Sunidhi Sharma secured the first position for her impactful presentation, followed by Deerja Sharma in second place and Drishti Sharma in third place, while Tamana and Shivanshi Choudhary were awarded consolation prizes for their commendable participation.

The Painting Competition was judged by Neha Gupta, Anju Sharma and Dr. Bheem Bakshi. Tanshu stood first for the creative depiction of the theme, Sirjeeta Devi bagged the second position and Sunana Devi secured the third position, whereas Mohit Kumar and Taranjeet Singh were given consolation prizes for their artistic efforts.

At the culmination of the programme, prizes and certificates were distributed among the winners and participants in recognition of their talent and active involvement. Staff members of the school and a large number of students were present on the occasion and witnessed the programme with great enthusiasm.

The entire programme was conducted under the direction of Joint Director Information, Deepak Dubey and under the supervision of Cultural Officer, Mohit Sharma.
