JAMMU: The Directorate of Hindi, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), today inaugurated the week-long Hindi Week celebrations, being observed from September 14 to 20, 2026, with a ‘Mera Parichay’ activity.
Prof. Anupama Vohra, PG English Coordinator, CDOE, University of Jammu, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, in her address highlighted the significance, widespread reach and contemporary relevance of Hindi. She emphasised that Hindi has a strong presence not only in India but also across the globe, and continues to evolve with changing times and emerging modes of communication.
The ‘Mera Parichay’ activity invited participants to introduce themselves in Hindi within one minute. More than 50 students from the Departments of Dogri, Hindi, Mathematics, Chemistry, English and Political Science enthusiastically participated in the activity, reflecting their interest in promoting and using Hindi in diverse academic and social contexts.
Earlier, Prof. Anju Sharma, Director, Directorate of Hindi, in her welcome address, apprised the participants of the objectives of the celebrations, the programme schedule, and the various activities planned for the week.
The week-long celebrations feature a series of literary, creative and technology-oriented activities, including “Digital Hindi and the New Generation,” “Sahitya Mitra,” “Hindi Creativity Day,” “Digital Hindi Day,” a Dictation Competition and a Hindi Reel Competition. The activities are aimed at providing students with opportunities to explore the literary, creative and digital dimensions of the Hindi language.
Dr. Koshika Sharma, Assistant Professor, Directorate of Hindi, conducted the proceedings of the programme, while Dr. Pooja Sharma, Assistant Professor, CDOE, delivered the vote of thanks.
Faculty members from CDOE, including Dr. Heena Abrol, Dr. Neelam Chaudhary, Dr. Parshotam Paul Singh, Dr. Mamta Sharma, Dr. Pragati Jasrotia, Dr. Himanshi Chandervanshi and Ms. Pooja Sharma, were also present on the occasion. The celebrations seek to encourage wider use of Hindi among students and provide a platform for engaging with the language through innovative, literary and digital activities.
