JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management Jammu along with Kartavya Club, The Social Responsibility club, IIM Jammu under the aegis of Anandam: The Centre for Happiness, IIM Jammu in collaboration with Student Affairs, IIM Jammu organised an impactful awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at the Mandapam Auditorium, IIM Jammu, on 12 September 2026.
Centred on the powerful message “नशाछोड़ो, ज़िंदगीजोड़ो”, the programme brought together students and members of the IIM Jammu community to reflect on the growing challenge of substance abuse and the collective responsibility required to build a healthier and drug-free society.
The programme was graced by Mrs. Preeti Kanwal, Lecturer in Zoology, VSK Samagra Shiksha, Jammu, and Founder of One We Are One Trust, Jammu, Shri Vijay Kamble, Administrative Officer-Student Affairs, and Ms. Samriddhi Singh, Media and Public Relations Officer, One We Are One Trust, Jammu. Through their experiences and perspectives, the speakers highlighted the far-reaching consequences of substance abuse and stressed the need to strengthen awareness, prevention, family support and positive avenues of engagement for young people.
Mrs. Preeti Kanwal, Lecturer in Zoology, VSK Samagra Shiksha, Jammu, and Founder of One We Are One Trust, Jammu shared powerful experiences from her work with individuals and families affected by substance abuse. Recalling an incident involving a young student Himanshu who lost his life to drugs at the age of 17, she highlighted the devastating consequences that addiction can have on young lives and their families.
She emphasised that prevention is better than cure and called upon young people to cultivate discipline, self-control and the confidence to say “No” to drugs.She also underlined the profound influence of the family environment on children and urged parents and elders to be conscious of the lifestyles and behavioural patterns they model at home. She advocated greater use of sports, recreation, music, cultural programmes, social counselling and street theatre as effective instruments for awareness, prevention and positive community engagement.
Speaking about the work of One We Are One Trust, she highlighted the importance of extending compassion, understanding and moral support to individuals struggling with addiction. She stressed that timely intervention and a supportive social environment can help individuals reconnect with their families, regain confidence and move towards healthier and more productive lives.
Ms. Samriddhi Singh, Media and Public Relations Officer, One We Are One Trust, Jammuadministered the Nasha Mukt Pledge on the occasion and expressed her gratitude to the leadership of IIM Jammu for supporting the initiative and, through her address, appealed to the youth to make responsible choices, stay away from substance abuse and become ambassadors of a healthier and drug-free society
Addressing the gathering, Shri Vijay Anant Kamble, Administrative Officer–Student Affairs, IIM Jammu, emphasised that the fight against substance abuse cannot be left to the Government alone, but requires the active participation of families, educational institutions, communities and every responsible citizen. He called for greater focus on constructive avenues such as sports, music, cultural activities and recreation, which can provide young people with positive spaces for expression, engagement and personal growth.
He also spoke about the vision and commitment of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, towards creating a Nasha Mukt Campus and contributing to the larger vision of Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir and Nasha Mukt Bharat. He credited Director, IIM Jammu and Chairperson Student Affairs, IIM Jammufor their continued encouragement and support for such noble initiatives, reflecting IIM Jammu’s commitment to creating a healthy, safe and positive environment for its students and the wider campus community.
A special highlight of the programme was the poetry presentation by the students and AO-Student Affairs of IIM Jammu, who used the power of words and creative expression to convey a strong message against substance abuse. Their thought-provoking poetic presentation brought an emotional and youthful dimension to the programme, reinforcing the message that the fight against drugs is not merely a social campaign but a collective commitment towards protecting aspirations, relationships and the future of the younger generation.
The programme concluded with a renewed call for collective action and responsible choices. The discussions and student presentations reinforced the message that a healthy individual builds a healthy family, a healthy family builds a healthy society, and a healthy society lays the foundation for a stronger nation.The programme served as a meaningful reminder that every choice matters and that saying “No” to drugs is a step towards saying “Yes” to life, dreams, health and a brighter future.
