AWANTIPORA: As part of the ‘Vigilance Awareness Week 2026,’ the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, in collaboration with the Office of the Dean of Students and the Departmental Vigilance Officer, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), organised a walkathon on Thursday aimed at spreading awareness on the eradication of corruption and fostering a culture of integrity, transparency and accountability on the university campus.

Speaking on the occasion, Dean of Students, Dr. Monisa Qadiri, said, the collective participation of faculty, heads, teams and administrative staff sends out a clear message that IUST stands against bribery and dishonesty. She added that the university’s commitment is not limited to the vigilance week and that integrity is integrated into its everyday processes, as part of the larger national mission.

Earlier, Officer-in-Charge, Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, Dr. S. Iqbal Quraishi, while introducing the event, said that the objective of the rally was to spread awareness among the students and staff to stand united against corruption. “Today’s rally is a step towards reinforcing our commitment to integrity and transparency,” he said.

Dean School of Humanities and Social Sciences, IUST, Dr. Afroz Ahmad Bisati, highlighted corruption as an everyday phenomenon “that needs to be eradicated.” He observed that even a deliberate delay of one minute beyond the required time for a task amounts to corruption and emphasised the need to address such practices.

Also present was Head, Department of Education Prof Mahmood Ahmad Khan, who said that corruption eats away at a society and that not only bribery but also dereliction of duty, such as an officer not clearing a file without a reason or a teacher not taking a class properly, amounts to corruption.

IUST's Departmental Vigilance Officer, Javed Ahmad Khan, said, the university is committed to eradicate corruption in all its forms. He informed the gathering that if anyone faces any instances of corruption at IUST, they can report it through the available mechanisms, including the DVO and to the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Dr. Rabia Noor emphasised coming forward against the practices of corruption.“It's the duty of every individual to fight against corruption at every level,” she stressed.

The Walkathon was part of the series of University’s ongoing Preventive Vigilance Campaign and was flagged off from the Administration Block and witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, officers, staff and students of the University.
