- 7th District Karate Championship 2026 concludes
- Around 400 young students showcase their talent
BUDGAM: The 7th District Karate Championship 2026, organised by the Karate Association of Budgam, concluded successfully today, bringing together around 400 students from various schools and karate clubs across the district.
The championship provided a vibrant platform for young athletes to demonstrate their skills, discipline, determination and competitive spirit. The participation of a large number of students reflected the growing interest among children and youth in martial arts and organised sports in Budgam.
The closing ceremony was attended by Dr. Owais Mattoo, District President, Private Schools Association (PSA) Budgam and Director Media & Communications, who was the Chief Guest. He interacted with the participating athletes, coaches and officials and appreciated the efforts of the Karate Association of Budgam for organising the championship.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Owais Mattoo said that sports play a vital role in the holistic development of children and youth, helping them develop discipline, confidence, leadership qualities, teamwork and a positive competitive spirit.
Dr. Mattoo said “Private Schools Association (PSA) is committed to extending its full support and cooperation to all sports associations and organisations working for the promotion of games and sports in the district. We firmly believe that every child should have opportunities not only to excel academically but also to discover and develop their potential through sports,”
He further emphasised that schools, parents, sports bodies and the wider community must work together to create a stronger sporting culture in the district. “Our young athletes are not merely competing for medals they are building character, discipline and confidence that will remain with them throughout their lives. Supporting sports is therefore an investment in the future of our children”.
Dr. Mattoo congratulated all the participants and winners for their performances and appreciated the coaches and officials for their dedication in nurturing young sporting talent.
He also lauded the schools, clubs and parents for encouraging students to participate in sports activities and providing them with the necessary support to pursue their sporting aspirations.
The organisers expressed gratitude to all the athletes, coaches, technical officials, participating schools, clubs, parents, supporters and everyone associated with the championship for contributing to its successful conduct.
The successful conclusion of the 7th District Karate Championship has once again highlighted the growing potential of young athletes in Budgam and underscored the importance of providing them with regular platforms to compete, learn and excel.
