In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

KARGIL: The month-long self-defence camp for girl students of PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Kargil, which began on October 10, concluded today with a grand ceremony. The camp, conducted by Zulfiqar Ali, a National Medallist and professional coach from the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, aimed to empower students with essential self-defence skills to enhance their safety and confidence.

The camp was part of the PM Shri Self-Defense Training initiative, which focuses on equipping young girls with the knowledge and techniques necessary to defend themselves in critical situations. Anayat Ali Shotopa, General Secretary of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, was the chief guest. K.A. Amitabh, Principal of PM Shri JNV Kargil, along with senior members of the Kargil Taekwondo Association, Mohd Said and M. Sabiri, were also present at the event.

During his address, Anayat Ali Shotopa encouraged the students to consider pursuing sports as a profession, noting the increasing opportunities in the field. He also expressed his gratitude to Principal K.A. Amitabh for facilitating the camp and providing the Ladakh Taekwondo Association with the platform to conduct the training. He assured the students that any interested participants would be given the opportunity to compete in upcoming championships.

Principal K.A. Amitabh highlighted the importance of the self-defense training under the PM Shri Scheme, noting that the program not only teaches basic defense techniques but also helps students develop awareness of their surroundings and learn to handle emergency situations. He also expressed appreciation for Coach Zulfiqar Ali's efforts, under whose guidance four students from the school won medals at the 3rd UT Ladakh Taekwondo Championship, including one silver and three bronze. The self-defense camp has successfully instilled confidence in the students and equipped them with the tools necessary to face any challenges, both on and off the field.
