- DC calls for collaborative approach to eliminate Drug menace and safeguard future of youth
BANDIPORA: A District-Level Narco Coordination (NCORD) meeting was today held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri at Mini Secretariat, Bandipora. The meeting was aimed to assess ongoing efforts and strategies to combat drug abuse in the district. During the meeting, various measures and provisions to address the issue of drug menace were discussed in detail.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Zaffar Husson Shawl, briefed the participants about the initiatives currently in place. SSP Bandipora, Harmeet Singh, highlighted the proactive role of the Police Department in curbing drug abuse through enforcement and awareness campaigns. Speaking on the occasion, the DC emphasized the need for enhanced awareness among the public and directed the Excise and Taxation Department to collaborate with the Education Department and other stakeholders to conduct targeted awareness programmes.
He instructed focused interventions in areas identified as hotspots for drug consumption. To strengthen monitoring mechanisms, the Drugs Control Department was tasked with conducting special drives to check the illegal operation of medical stores. Strict action was recommended against landowners found cultivating psychotropic substances, with instructions to identify such lands promptly.
The DC stressed that drug abuse is a pressing social issue that requires collective action from all stakeholders. He called for a collaborative approach to eliminate this menace and safeguard the future of the youth. The meeting was attended by Chief Judicial Magistrate Bandipora, SDM Sumbal, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chief Education Officer (CEO), District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO), Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), District Information Officer (DIO), DySP DAR and other concerned officials.
