• Decline in drug abuse marks a promising path toward a brighter, healthier society

SRINAGAR: Kashmir, for centuries renowned as a fertile ground of diverse thoughts, ideologies, and beliefs, has earned even greater global admiration for its unique legacy of peaceful coexistence. Despite the multiplicity of perspectives, the people of this valley have lived together in harmony, sharing their social, cultural, and economic lives with remarkable warmth and mutual respect.

This enviable spirit of unity and social cohesion is deeply rooted in the teachings of the valley’s illustrious Sufi saints and Rishis, whose contributions have shaped the moral and spiritual fabric of Kashmiri society. Their timeless guidance remains an undeniable foundation of brotherhood respected by people of every ideology and school of thought.

These views were expressed by Allama Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami,Chief of Karwani Islami International, during his Friday sermon at Central Jamia Masjid, Jamnagri Shopian. The gathering witnessed a large turnout of worshippers.Reflecting on the teachings of the Kashmiri Rishis and the profound legacy of the Sufi saints, Allama Hami emphasized that these noble figures consistently upheld unity, love, and collective harmony as core principles.

Their spiritual influence continues to inspire the people of Kashmir, who even today demonstrate unwavering commitment to cooperation, brotherhood, and mutual assistance. Dr. Hami noted that this distinguished cultural heritage has made the people of Kashmir globally recognized for their generosity, foresight, and unmatched hospitality.

He expressed optimism at the observable decline in drug abuse across the region—an outcome of coordinated social, institutional, and governmental interventions. Allama Hami termed this decline a “ray of hope” for a brighter future and stressed the need to intensify efforts to completely eradicate drug addiction, ensuring a morally, socially, and economically healthy society.

Calling drug abuse and its illegal trade a “satanic pursuit,” he warned that its sole aim is to cripple a strong and vibrant society from within. He urged parents to nurture their children with proper moral guidance and to connect them with the sacred teachings of the saints and the Awliya Allah, so they may develop the ability to distinguish between right and wrong and contribute meaningfully to the making of an enlightened society.
