KATRA: A group of students from Government Degree College (GDC) Reasi, accompanied by two faculty members, Dr. Mehak and Dr.Wajahad, visited the School of Biotechnology at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) for a guided tour of various biotechnology labs. The educational visit aimed to provide students with hands-on exposure to laboratory facilities and to introduce them to the department's research work and academic offerings.
Dr. Ratna Chandra, Associate Professor and Head, School of Biotechnology, formally welcomed the group and emphasized the importance of practical learning in the field of biotechnology. She expressed her enthusiasm for fostering collaboration between educational institutions to inspire students toward careers in the field of Biosciences. Dr. Parvez Slathia, Assistant Professor, SoBT was the event coordinator. He engaged the students with an overview of various undergraduate and postgraduate courses available at the department.
He also discussed potential career paths and research opportunities for biotechnology students, encouraging them to consider the diverse possibilities within this dynamic field. The students and teachers explored various labs, where they observed equipment and ongoing research projects. The lab visits allowed students to understand practical applications of biotechnological concepts and reinforced the importance of technical skills in modern scientific research.
The faculty at SMVDU expressed hope that the visit would inspire students from GDC Reasi to pursue advanced studies and research in biotechnology, supporting the growth of future scientific talent in the region. The Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Pragati Kumar applauded the efforts of the School of Biotechnology in building connection between the university and the local community. He encouraged for more such visits for engaging in outreach with the local colleges.
