UDHAMPUR: The Jammu & Kashmir Science, Technology and Innovation Council, under the Department of Science and Technology, Udhampur, organized a seminar on the theme “Planet vs Plastic: Save Earth” here today at Government Higher Secondary School Jaganoo. This mega event aimed to raise awareness about reducing plastic usage to protect the planet.
The seminar was inaugurated by Principal of the institution Sushi Rani as the Chief Guest,, along with the Convener of the event, Shamsher Singh, Senior Lecturer in Physics. Dr. Rashpal Singh, Senior Lecturer in Zoology at DIET Kud, Namrata Sharma, Senior Lecturer in Botany at GHSS Dehari, and Bindu Sharma, Lecturer in Chemistry, were the Guests of Honour.
They also served as judges for the competition held for the students during the event. Students from different educational institutions of the Jaganoo cluster participated actively, sharing their insights on the importance of minimizing plastic use for the sustainability of life on Earth. The seminar's objective was to inspire young minds to take action against plastic pollution.
The welcome address was delivered by Narinder Raina, a senior teacher at GHSS Jaganoo, while Shruti Khanna, District Coordinator of the Department of Science and Technology, coordinated the event. She commended the efforts of the Principal, Convener, and school staff for hosting such an impactful and innovative program.
At the conclusion of the event, trophies and certificates were awarded to the top-performing students. Certificates of participation were given to all student participants. Sushi Rani, Principal of GHSS Jaganoo, also delivered an enlightening lecture on the theme. Anshu Devi and Swasthi, both from GHSS Jaganoo, secured the First and Second positions, respectively, while Simran from Girls High School Jaganoo earned the Third position.
Additionally, three consolation prizes were awarded to students from High School Ritti, High School Sattaini, and GHSS Jaganoo. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Shamsher Singh, Senior Lecturer in Physics and the Convener of the event, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, Judges, school staff, escort teachers, and Narinder Raina, who presented his thoughts on the theme through a Dogri poem, as well as the Department of JKSTIC for their support in organizing the event.
