KATRA: The School of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) organized an orientation session on 29th August 2024 for the newly admitted first-year B-Tech students of the ECE department. The event, held in Lecture Theatre-3 (LT-3), was addressed by esteemed faculty members including Dr. Amit Kant Pandit, Dr. Shashi Bhushan Kotwal, Dr. Purnima Hazra, Dr. Vikram Singh, Dr. Sumeet Gupta, and the Head of the School of ECE, Dr. Anil Bhardwaj.
The primary objective of the orientation was to motivate the freshers and equip them with essential information to help them navigate their new academic journey. During the session, the students were introduced to their academic plan for the four-year B.Tech degree, including the course structure and curriculum.
Dr. Sumeet Gupta highlighted that the overall development of an individual through their engineering education involves not only mastering technical skills but also fostering critical thinking, creativity, and ethical responsibility, all of which contribute to shaping a well-rounded and capable professional. In addition to academic guidelines, the session covered the rules & regulations of the university and expectations regarding discipline, ensuring that students are well-prepared for this new chapter of their life at SMVDU.
Dr. Shashi briefly mentioned the Feynman Technique for studying, providing an overview of its approach, which emphasizes breaking down complex concepts into simpler terms to enhance understanding and retention. The event provided a platform for students to connect with the faculty members and understand the resources available to them, setting a positive vibe for the exciting journey ahead.
Dr. Anil Bhardwaj, in his address, emphasized the importance of discipline and hard work, encouraging students to make the most of their time at the university. Also Dr. Purnima Hazra emphasized the importance of making the most of your time after 5 PM, encouraging individuals to dedicate these hours to personal development, skill enhancement, and meaningful activities that contribute to a brighter and more successful future.
