SRINAGAR: As a part of the public outreach programme of J&K Government, Police in Srinagar have observed 'Thana Diwas' across various Police Stations and Police Posts of the district. In the 2nd phase for the month of December 2024, the event was organized in (09) Police Stations & (07) Police Posts of the district which includes PS Sangam, PS Harwan, PS Rainawari, PS Nishat, PS Rajbagh, PS Women, PS Shaheed Gunj, PS Masiuma, PS Soura, PP Khimber, PP Qamarwari, PP Bagiyas, PP Hazratbal, PP Tengpora, PP Nehru Park and PP Khunmoh.
The meetings were chaired by supervisory officers & jurisdictional police officers and were attended by civil society members including members of Auqaf Committees, members of Traders Federation and Transporters, Panchayti Raj members, Religious Preachers, Mohallah elders etc.
During these meetings, participants highlighted various issues of public importance and put forth their grievances which were within the domain of district police viz, illegal narcotics trafficking, sand mafia, traffic issues, floating population etc. some of the issues highlighted pertaining to civil administration like improvement and maintenance of roads, sanitation, public health, electricity etc were also recorded.
Police assured them that genuine grievances pertaining to Police will be resolved on priority and dealt as per law and those pertaining to civil administration will be taken up with the concerned departments for their timely redressal. Participants were urged to co-operate with Police in curbing the drug menace and in identifying anti-national and anti-social elements to maintain peace and order in the society. Community members assured their cooperation for enhancing police-public relationship.
By organising 'Thana Diwas', Srinagar Police reinforces its commitment to improve transparency and accountability in policing at grassroot level in the district and to develop confidence and synergy between police and citizens for effective redressal of grievances.
